I really don't mind day-1 or pre-order DLC, provided they make sure there are enough copies available to last for 2 weeks, so people won't miss out on day-1 DLC because the store ran out of its limited amount of copies before day-1 even started. It makes a nice gift for the people who were really hyped about the game in advance.

And no, the From Ashes DLC was in no way crucial to the plot, nor to the series as a whole. It was cool, but in no way "required".

I completely agree with every single one of his points:
- ME2 is one of my favourite games of all time
- ME3 was a huge misstep and I would do best just completely forgetting about all of it
- I don't need Shepard or any other trilogy character in the next game
- A completely different story from the obvious "save the galaxy... again" would be very welcome

If what BW says is true, it's that From Ashes was cut from the retail game for lack of time. and was finished between the time of the game going gold and release date. From leaked scripts Javik was actually going to be part of the game's story. Although I do understand the apprehension people have, as if it was cut from the game for the sake of pinching a few more dollars off of you, which is a valid concern. Personally I have no problem spending money on content, only if the former is true. Plus, From Ashes was actually very good.

I certainly agree on ME4, because what else can they do?

Considering it's the characters that make Mass Effect what it is for me, I can honestly say that the next Mass Effect simply will not be the same for me.

I do not mind the fresh start, hell I welcome it

But answer me this

How do I know Mac is not going to pull the same crap again in the next Mass Effect and juat throw me a huge artistic middle finger at the end?

Personally I would phrase it "Why should I trust you again?"  But the meaning is the same.

Well... do you want more Mass Effect at all? If you don't just hate the universe forever after this, it seems like a chance that must be taken.

I certainly don't, especially with the stuff that Mac is putting into it now.

I'm willing to give it a look. What sorts of things are you concerned about?

I found the ME1 universe interesting, but I've found it less interesting with each subsequent game - to me the ME1 setting had a sense of scale that's lost as humans and Cerberus and Omega are made central to everything - so the characters are what kept my interest. Without them returning, i don't have anything against ME4 but I'd probably prefer a new IP

I definitely wouldn't want to play a criminal as suggested by Mr Biscuit.

I do want more Mass Effect.  It's a great setting with loads of potential.  And I've been saying the nest game should be a tabula rasa for a while now.

But after ME3, I'm not sure I'm ready to trust again.

We don't even know if he'll be lead writer again. Also I'm pretty sure that while Mac was involved with the making of the ending, most of the blame goes to Casey.

BioWare acts just like Udina (in ME1) towards Shepard.

"Now you're more trouble than you're worth. I'll take it from here."

Does that mean that Shepard will show up again to pull the rug out from under Bioware?

That already happened.

BioWare is lying on the Presidium with a hole in its chest. Whether it will ever get up again remains to be seen.

Just don't buy it at release.  Wait for reviews etc. and if it looks bad but still sort of interesting, get it when it's on sale for $10 or something.

I know I'm pretty excited for Dragon Age Inquisition for many reasons, despite how disappointing DA2 was. But with Mass Effect they're gonna have to earn my trust again. The first step is to not make it a prequel/midiquel. If they do then they're gonna fail right outta the gate and I'm just gonna pretend it doesn't exist. I'll only be paying attention to Dragon Age and the new IP from that point on.

it seems like a chance that must be taken.

Ten years ago, maybe. Today you can watch a full Youtube Let's Play before buying the game (hell, you could have watched a full ME3 play through before the game was even launched thanks to Bioware's space launch PR stunt). So no, you don't have to trust Bioware to benefit in the unlikely case that they make ME4 a good RPG.

Wait for reviews etc

Based on the estimated 110% positive reviews you should have bought ME3, and would have been annoyed.

in the words of the who.

I think Esbern said it better:
"But no one wanted to believe... And when the truth finally dawns... It dawns in fire!"

The very concept of day one dlc is downright insulting.

You're telling me you're going to buy a product that is 75% of what it should be, then buy that other 25% just so you pay more for a complete product? Nevermind the fact that Javik was planned to be part of the game from the start as an actual core character in the "vanilla" game. There's no excuse for this practice no matter what figurehead or developer tries to bull**** us with some arbitrary reason. End of the day, it's a greedy ass money grab, and the person really being hurt is the consumer if they continue to support it. If this were a publisher like Rockstar, planned content like this would be free as they intended it to be part of the game during initial planning (see Outlaws To The End [RDR], Heists [GTAV]).

It ain't "day one" dlc. It's cut content  dlc. :police:

It's the cut content bit that's the issue. There's nothing particularly wrong in principle with being able to get a cheaper core, essential product and paying extra for some nice but non-essential addons, even on Day 1. But the prices and content both need to be appropriate for that, which is why From Ashes looks so bad.

That's why I'll be looking at user reviews, not "professional" ones, and user reviews bombed the game, though not enough.

this goes with what massively posted a few above you...i like characters, if i feel uneasy because those characters might get wiped like they did in me3 then why get invested in the first place. i stay away from wasps because ive been stung a few times, when i see another 1 i dont wait to get stung i just move away.
