 Hi everyone,

I want to make a solo(ish) play with an evil Half-Orc. I say solo(wish) because I might let Viconia join me later on.
Even Half-Orcs need some love.

I can't, however, decide on a class!

My first idea was an assassin but it didn't felt quite right (I'm starting at level 1, in Candlekeep). First the 19 CON of the Half-Orc felt wasted on a rogue, and it lacked the oomph that a strong Half-Orc should have.

I rolled a barbarian, but it might become a little dull, later on… same for the kensai.

So this is what I'm looking for: a strong, powerful character with little patience and who "doesn't suffer fools gladly". I like to backstab but I also like to stand toe-to-toe with an opponment and not be scared that a kobold might hit me… what do you think? What character do you think will be the most "fun" through the game as well as make sense (while I like to backstab, I know that it probably won't fit the theme of the character at all).

(If it helps, I found the perfect image for this character, and that will serve as the portrait as well: http://cl.ly/image/1a400w473t0m)

How about starting as an Assassin and later adding the role of a Cleric of Talos? I assume you are using BGT or Tutu. In a way it's a pity you plan a solo or duo. With Edwin, and later Korgan, this would be a perfectly evil group.

Sounds like a cleric/thief multi-class would suit you.

How could I do that? I'm not able to dual a half-orc, and especially not into a kit… :?
I'm not dead set on playing solo… I might add a companion or another, but it needs to make sense with the character, and I'm not seeing a half-orc putting up with Edwin's insults. ^_^

I never considered a cleric/thief, and I never played one either! I disregarded it mostly because it would be a little redundant with Viconia, but it might be an interesting idea, especially if I focus on more combat-related spells while Viconia on more defense and support… too bad you can't Multiclass a Cleric of Talos!

Hey there Mr. Deluxe. I just wanted I'd share a quick thought.

When you mentioned your tactical preferences, a C/T was the first thing that came to mind. Your portrait may not seem to fit a cleric exactly, but, interestingly, clerics of Gruumsh (the evil orcish god of conquest survival, strength, and territory) are often depicted with spears. Factoring in your half-orc's personality, it seems to me that we have a match. A unique staff spear gifted from the deity Gruumsh might make an suitable personal item, rounding out the character.

Anyhoo. Enjoy your run Mr. Deluxe!

Best,

A.

I love that idea, Alesia_BH! I have no idea how to make a custom staff spear, but there is one in both BG1 and BG2 that will serve! :)

A quick update: I did go with a Cleric/Thief (I got a fantastic roll for it, btw. 97 in just a couple of minutes of rolls. I couldn't believe my luck!), and I'm loving the combination of Sanctuary with Hide in Shadows and backstab.

I have a problem, however: besides backstabs (or back 'bludgeon') my 19 STR Half-Orc has a tough-time hitting the broad side of a barn! His level 6 Cleric and level 6 Thief, with 14 THAC0. How can I improve this?

Thanks!

There are a number of cleric spells that will help improve THAC0 - both directly and through increasing your strength. You may also find it helpful to summon skeletons to your aid - they will make it easier for you to dive in and out of combat (finding somewhere to hide before backstabbing again). It also sounds like the staff on sale at Ulgoth's Beard might be to your taste!
