Vanguard is probably my favorite class, with the Slayer being 'that guy'.

Like most when ME3 MP was first released it was the first class I played back when I only had vanilla classes...

so I promoted and decided to play the Volus, granted this is only silvers(Collectors so I count it as silver++) ..WOW what fun!!!

how come no one mentions this? now that the vanguard is ~18 I'll try him on Golds later but man nothing like crotch punching a brute in the well, you know and having it fall!

Biotic Orbs hit pretty damn hard and the Volus is a great at reviving dead teammates and getting them back at 100% due to the semi stealth and then shield restore..

Granted the survival rate is very low and I can see myself dying lots in golds simply because the way Vanguards toe the line in their play style.. and his margin for error is soo much less

I did use the gauntlet that was GREAT FUN but I figured the extra 15% damage from the Adaptive Amp is too much to pass up.

my ??'s are

- does anyone play him exclusively?
-should I use survivor loadout on him?

I usually play off host so I'm used to that

funny part is most of my sync deaths are from a ninja Banshee or a Phantom coming behind me. I LOVE to BC banshees!

off host? vanguards suffer the most from off host, try on host, and massacre everything.

I don't use biotic orbs offensively on him, power cooldown only. bonus charge helps too, charging 7 or 8 times in a row make him so much fun

I remember when people with horrendous connections would try to host games so they could play a Vanguard without latency issues. It was terrible.

He is fun... But kind of a novelty. I think he is the best babysitter in the game... If anything comes near your baby, charge to stagger, then shoot it... Afterwards, shield boost your baby. Hence the name 'Volus Protector'

Learn to use the Defensive Stance. Seriously underrated ability imo.

My build

It's very easy to never die with him. With this setup he has over 1500 barrier, and has two powers that replentish them. Cloak every chance you get. It's a simple and fun way to play, charge and then shotgun to face. While you're in point blank, use shield boost whenever you need to. Never use your orbs, they go on and stay on for recharge speed. Trust me, you'll need it.

All the volus characters are good fun to play, if you're smart about it. This guy might be the easiest to top the scoreboard with (if you care about that) since he can get point blank while invisible and wreck face.

He's my second fav behind the VOLGINEER!  He's very survivable if played conservatively, with 3 different ways to regain sheild.  For real fun, go with the multicharge evo... charge, charge charge!  With recharge on the orbs, he can still have a great cooldown and carry some heavy firepower (save orb chucking for the end of the round bosses).  The bad news is that both charge and sheildboost perfrom unreliably off host (lag depending).

I like him with an all 6 build  :P

Can two-clip some bosses on Platinum with a Reegar, plus it's super fun. As said get accustomed to using Defensive Stance (heavy melee), very useful for helping manage Orb cooldowns.

It is a fun class to play but off host is more worriesome with him than other kits I find on gold.

Survival rate very low?? Volus Protector is an almost indestructible weapon of mass destruction (on gold and I use a no-fitness build, but on-host) ! The only problematic faction are collectors, because seeker swarms disable shield boost (then you have to go into hide-in-the-corner-mode) and captains rapid fire weapons are deadly.

Survivor Loadout is a waste. +20% gives you only 100 more shields and ops packs are made redundant by shield boost. I use Structural Ergonomics to reduce cooldown times (or some other gear that gives cooldown improvement), this also improves survival because of faster BC and shield boost.

Did a thunderdome duo with nat in the hat using this kit. Volus Vanguard has an amazing survivability, moreso than anyone thinks. Always shield boost before anything - that damage reduction and shield recharge delay will keep you alive. Very very viable in higher difficulties.
