Generally, pansexuality is far less important to this demographic than having said horny teenagers know that the object of their titillation would have sex with them.

I was going to use lesbian but its not really accurate but fine.

The vast majority of casual fans like asari because they are hot space lesbians and straight male teenagers think lesbians are hot. THis is the entire appeal of asari. That they are hot space lesbians.

And probably why the majority of femshep players romance liara

I don't deny that. If you want to talk fan-service (titillation) though, Miranda's catsuit and certain camera angles cater to that more so than the Asari ever did....and she obviously doesn't deserve to die for that. Hypocrisy at its finest...

There's an asari squadmate who is wearing a skintight catsuit but also exposing her cleavage.

Again, the lesbian thing is peripheral and only applies to this demographic if they're attracted to Liara to begin with, because the important thing is again, that such a race would be willing to have sex with them (which, of course, removes the alleged lesbian quality). And Tali seems to have beaten Liara in that demographic anyway.

There's an asari squadmate who is wearing a skintight catsuit but also exposing her cleavage.

A. that's not Liara, and B. she doesn't have the same camera angle problem, to my recollection.

Both the Asari and Daddy Issues Lawson deserve killing for LCD titillation.

I know...

But the Asari are still one of the most fleshed out alien races in the series. Reducing them to "sexual fantasy" is just dumb. Yes, we see some asari dancers (in places where you'd expect them). But 95% of the asari in the series are quite modestly dressed. Apart from the strippers, Benezia and Samara, most of them don't even show cleavage ^_^

And do you think most casual gamers like Miranda because of her personality (= horrible tsundere)?

I'm not talking about Liara. I'm talking about the fact that there's a race of women (Okay monogendered, but the game treats them as women) who are found sexually attractive by everyone, give great sex, make up 95% of the exotic dancers in the trilogy with a handwave about how they don't see this as exploitative. They give great sex, which is just like it is for humans except better. I can only take so much.

And I don't think they're that fleshed out. ME2 tries with Ilium but they're pretty obvious heirs to the Star Trek space babes.

One of my biggest regrets is not killing off Miranda in the SM.

Fortunately, I played it right when it came to Samara and her spawn. I killed her off in favor of Morinth, killed her other daughter in 3(who's too bland for me to remember the name of) and lastly finished off banshee-morinth (whom I didn't even notice was her, Lul).

I'm not saying it doesn't have dubious aspects, but I will say that the asari don't have any less depth than anyone else if you look beyond the surface.

That could be related to the fact that Bioware didn't make any female models for any of the other alien species.

The asari are cheapened because they were first and foremost made specifically to cater to horny nerds. The idea for the species is interesting. It was executed in the worst possible way.

Right on top of all that they have stuff like "Diplomacy" which we are never seen being effective, they have "a strong military" that buckles everytime it faces resistance so that's a nix, they have state screts that served to ****** off a ton of people and show them to be hyprocrites, and every single one of their achievements is likely due to them being treates as cattle by the protheans.

I won't deny they could have been executed better, but there does seem to be a certain vibe of "their approach to sex makes them bad," and this makes me uncomfortable.

Their diplomacy is responsible, among other things, for the continued survival/freedom of humanity, as they got the turians to back off from the Relay 314 Incident (in addition to founding the Council and everything diplomatic involved in its spread). Their military's fought very well if you bother reading any planet entries in ME3, and their war assets outstrip everyone else's except Alliance, krogan, and either geth or quarian.

Honestly? The only race I actually like are the ME2 geth and would happily get rid of every other species and go back to the drawing board. The aliens are too much a Planet of Hats for me. The asari annoy me more personally because of their prominence and me being a straight female. Just another thing that makes me feel unwelcome in the ME verse.

Doesn't every other race aside from quarians have solely or almost solely male models?

The way I see it, the Asari are a fairly thoughtful reconstruction of the old "green space babe" trope. But they're not the worst offenders when it comes to fanservice in the ME series (imo), because their society comes with a well developed background.

That was the Council, not the Asari explicitly.

Their military couldn't fight the rachni, the krogan, and Thessia fell like a bad game of Jenga.

And strange their war assets without the Destiny Ascension are rather low....  To say nothing if you don't like scanning every planet which is where most of their war assets come from.

I think it's because the writers lack empathy (searching for the right word). I get a feeling that sexiness is the point to the asari; that the writers aren't interested in them as a culture. Compare to say, DA's approach to Isabela. She's a person, not a culture, but sexuality feels like a part of her and not the point.

The turians obviously are already fighting in this, and the salarians don't give a damn about uppity weaker races being sublimated, as has been clearly shown before.

True, being up against beings that live for nothing but aggression and war makes things rather tricky, but they definitely put up a good fight. As for your claim on Thessia, lol.

70 points, which is good, but not necessarily a game-changer. It still doesn't change a thing about them contributing a lot (the most of any Council race).

This can happen in some instances, but it's not complete and it's not the fault of the asari themselves, only presentation sometimes. In-universe, there's definitely far more than sexuality to their culture (although being open about sexuality is hardly a crime).

1.  Probably, but you don't have any conclusive proof

2.  hmmmm from the codex entries on both wars it seems like the asari and salarians in both cases were headed for certain defeat, hardly putting up a good fight.  All the warning in the world, its been weeks if not months since Earth got hit, and they still can't put together an effective defense.

3.Without that 70 they fall down quite a bit.  More if Samara is dead.
