Then I'm fairly sure you're reading them incorrectly. Both wars lasted for a long time. The Council was losing eventually in both cases, but it wasn't a curbstomp. Nor was Thessia, if you actually look at the codex entry (and the asari have a lot of territory to defend, they can't yank everything back to Thessia).2. hmmmm from the codex entries on both wars it seems like the asari and salarians in both cases were headed for certain defeat, hardly putting up a good fight. All the warning in the world, its been weeks if not months since Earth got hit, and they still can't put together an effective defense.
The point being that they're hardly objectively weak.3.Without that 70 they fall down quite a bit. More if Samara is dead.

What does it matter if it takes 1 year or 100 its not like the rachni or krogan would have isues repopulating or rebuilding given their birth rates. But are we ever given an official time frame for the wars?Xilizhra wrote...

The humans are still getting news from Earth, the Turians are still fighting over Palaven and winning in some areas (at least after the Krogan showed up). The asari just toppled. "The planet has gone dark" that means no news, no reports, nothing. And why can't they? Its not like itd be impossible on a time scale to recall their navies.
The line about asari commandoes from Shepard in ME1 serves to show that even without war assets.

I imagine it would be a bit embarassing to them. Ashley's 'I can't tell the aliens from the animals' comes to mind- think of how hard it must be for the Asari in reverse!Steelcan wrote...

It certainly begs the question of how intelligent a species needs to be before the Asari squick factor goes away... or if they have a squick factor at all.

I'm speaking from a meta perspective. The asari don't exist independently of their presentation, and I'd rather they didn't exist because they push my buttons in a bad way. So does ME3 Miranda, incidentally. I just bonded with her earlier incarnation. Otherwise she'd be Collector/Leng chow. This can happen in some instances, but it's not complete and it's not the fault of the asari themselves, only presentation sometimes. In-universe, there's definitely far more than sexuality to their culture (although being open about sexuality is hardly a crime).I think it's because the writers lack empathy (searching for the right
word). I get a feeling that sexiness is the point to the asari; that the
writers aren't interested in them as a culture. Compare to say, DA's
approach to Isabela. She's a person, not a culture, but sexuality feels
like a part of her and not the point.

The Reapers are just starting their attack when Shepard arrives, and the ending scenes show that fighting is still happening on Thessia (in a largely intact city, at that). So either the Reapers are making a special effort to jam communication (possibly they took out a vital comm buoy?), or someone screwed up the dialogue, which isn't exactly uncommon in ME3.The humans are still getting news from Earth, the Turians are still fighting over Palaven and winning in some areas (at least after the Krogan showed up). The asari just toppled. "The planet has gone dark" that means no news, no reports, nothing. And why can't they? Its not like itd be impossible on a time scale to recall their navies.
Also, what I meant is that the asari can't just hold all of their forces at Thessia waiting for the Reapers.

The Reapers don't attack Thessia until well into the war you know that. The ending slides show fighting on an asari world, implied to be Thessia, notice I didn't say all resistence had stopped.Xilizhra wrote...

Why wait so late? The Asari had to have some sort of non-Asari partner species to avoid AY syndrome before leaving Thessia...Steelcan wrote...

Because that would be certain death for everyone else. Why not?
Assuming lack of non-asari partners is what actually produces that instead of it just being a baseless prejudice, which... I don't really think there's any basis for it. It's absurd anyway; the asari would have died out long ago if, you know, mating with their own species was so problematic. Why wait so late? The Asari had to have some sort of non-Asari partner species to avoid AY syndrome before leaving Thessia...
