set me straight on mattock vs. pistols

First of all, I did a 10 second test how many mouse clicks I do as fast as I can: 52. That is 5+ mattock shots per second. I wonder if the mattockophiles are actually getting off the shots they think they are. The 4 phalanx shots deliver 4x144=576 damage in one second. 5.2 mattock shots deliver 5.2x130=676 damage.
But, the mattock recoil is 3, while the phalanx is 0.13. Those phalanx shots are hitting where aimed; the mattock at max finger clicks and higher recoil are sure to have a bigger spread.
Plus, phalanx at 0.25 weight beats mattock at 0.90.
The eagle is equally lopsided. It gets an actual 6.7 shots per second at 6.7x108=724 damage, at a weight of 0.25. And recoil is 0.4, much less than mattock. Even my eagle II gets 6.7x89=596 damage for 0.43 weight, nearly as good as my indra VI at half the weight.
the mattock has a slight accuracy advantage at 65% vs 50% for the pistols, but I think the high recoil works against accuracy.
I know that in-game counts more than paper comparisons, but what am I missing here? Why choose mattock over a pistol?

Mattock is horrible - too much finger strain. If you can cope with a scope the valiant is more fun to use.

Because most of the pistols are way better than the Mattock?

Only 5 shots per second? Tsk tsk.
If you are on pc can't you set a macro to fire at insane speed without even needing to strain your fingers?
But yeah, five shots manually isn't the best, there are people who can make the mattock fire faster than most of the automatic weapons, and they can do some pretty great damage with it

Why do you want a light cooldown on the huntress? Tac cheat lets you have the same cooldown no mater how heavy of a weapon you use. I recommend the Crusader.

I'm not a big fan of the Mattock, not worth the effort IMHO.

OK that's a new one on me. What is tac cheat, please?

A BSN hipsterism for tactical cloak.

Tac Cheat is a BSN term I came up with for Tactical Scan, not Tactical Cloak. Use it right.

For light, accurate weapons I'd be thinking Valiant, Paladin, Executioner, Arc Pistol, Eagle, Indra, Suppressor, Carnifex...

The Locust has supreme accuracy at range of all of the SMGs (and plenty of assault rifles). But if you are dead set on a pistol, I use the phalanx on most of my casters. Yes, the Carnifex or Paladin boast more DPS, same with the eagle. However, the phalanx shots always land where you aim them, has very little recoil (consistent headshot capable), and has a good capacity.

Since you said you don't care for the CSR, give something like the Hurricane or CSMG a try. Both great caster weapons, just be careful to not overheat if you're using a low-level CSMG.

It dosen't matter what weapon you use on this kit anyway. Her powers do the talking.

Gun doesn't really matter on Huntress, as others have said. Just cloak immediately before using a power and you're good to go.
Why do people keep saying this stuff? Of course your weapon matters.
Huntress is an infiltrator and cares very little about the weight of her loadout. Use that to your advantage and bring a good weapon: Claymore, Raider, Wraith, Graal, Kishock, Harrier, Saber, Hurricane, CSMG, Talon... You can never reach her full potential if you can't deal a lot of weapon damage along with all the power damage.

I mis-spoke. I meant that in the sense that weight doesn't matter, and incorrectly assumed that my meaning was clear.Aedolon wrote...
