• About
Although I don't play as this class very much, I found out a very fun and effective way to play with it.
This build of the N7 Slayer is very different from the usual, focusing on maximizing the damage of Phase Disruptor rather than the typical "Biotic Charge Melee-oriented" and "Biotic Slash Spammer". It also requires a lot of accuracy, so for many reasons this build works better for PC players (since the mouse has more accuracy than the analog stick).
• Why play as N7 Slayer?
This class is a bit overlooked and honestly caught my attention initially, but I ended up trading it for the N7 Shadow and N7 Paladin. It is, still, a very fun class to use.
• Pros
- Can phase through walls and other obstacles with dodge moves and melee attacks.
- Biotic Slash provides a very safe and campy strategy for defensive retreats, since it goes through walls and it is very powerful.
- Phase Disruptor has a very high DPS due being easily spammed.
• Cons
- Phase Disruptor loses a LOT of accuracy if the player is not the host, since it is affected by lag.
- Using the Slayer melee attacks requires a lot of practice, as it is easy to phase through the enemy and miss the strikes.
In this build this power plays a more supportive role, functioning as a source for replenishing Shields in order to allow Phase Disruptor spamming and power damage bonus.
• Phase Disruptor/b]The main focus of this build. The reason why I call this build "Megaman" is a reference to the famous Blue Bomber, as Phase Disruptor will be your main source of this damage. With this build, it should cause almost 2300 damage to armor per shot.
Phase Disruptor works like Nova: it consumes your barriers in order to unleash a powerful attack. Each shot consumes 40% of your barriers (20% with the Efficient Blast evolution); however, the damage is not related to the current percentage of barriers, meaning it will always cause full damage regardless of how much barriers you have. Much like Nova, it functions like a Grenade Power: it doesn't trigger any cooldowns, and can be used as long the player has remaining barriers.
Despite being very powerful, this power has some flaws. Rather than locking on enemies, Phase Disruptor fires EXACTLY where you aim, a pinpoint blast. However, the power has very high radius (base 4.20 m). This Power requires very high accuracy and aim in order to not wast any blasts.
Unlike many people think, Phase Disruptor is NOT a Biotic Power, but rather a Combat Power. In other words, it CANNOT cause Biotic Explosions, however it can detonated Tech Combos. Spam this combined with Flamer for nearly infinite Fire Explosions.
• Biotic SlashUsed mainly for defense against large hordes and when the player is not in position to use Phase Disruptor. Much like other builds that focus on Biotic Slash, the main use is to hit enemies through walls for easy and cheap damage.
• The Build: Megaman
As said earlier, this build focuses on heavy and constant damage using Phase Disruptor, supplying it with Biotic Charges in order to power up it and replenish shields.
Power Evolutions
• Biotic Charge: Radius (4), Power Synergy (5), Barrier (6)
• Phase Disruptor: Damage (4), Efficient Blast (5), Armor Damage (6)
• Biotic Slash: (1), (2), (3)
• N7 Slayer: Damage & Capacity (4), Power Damage (5)
• Fitness: Durability (4), Shield Recharge (5), Fitness Expert (6)
Detailed spec here.
Since Biotic Slash is used as a last resource and it is not the focus of this build, it's only evolved till level 3.
Biotic Charge goes for Radius rather than Force & Damage to allow the Slayer to deal with multiple enemies more easily.
• Using the Megaman
You'll be sniping everything with Phase Disruptor. If you're skilled with Sniper Rifles, this should be as easy.
Fire a couple of blasts till you can't anymore, then Charge (if possible) to replenish and back to pew pew. The DPS (Damage per Second) is insanely high due the Power Spam, allowing to take down armored enemies at ease. This is one of the few classes with potential of Platinum Solo'ing.
• The Arsenal
While this build is not completely power dependent (since Phase Disruptor has no cooldowns), you still depend on Biotic Charge's cooldown in order to maximize your DPS. So, the best idea is to keep the load at 200%.
• Acolyte (Heavy Pistol): since you'll be taking Armor Damage for Phase Disruptor, this weapon works perfectly. You can pretty much stick with this babe only. Be sure to use Incendiary Ammo with it to allow Fire Explosions being detonated by Phase Disruptor.
• N7 Hurricane (Submachine Gun): useful as a secondary weapon when fighting armored enemies (such as Banshees and Atlases) after stripping down their shields. Mod it with Ultralight Materials and Armor Penetration to maximize this.
However, if you do want to carry more powerful weapons and sacrifice a bit your cooldowns, I'd recommend this one:
• Cerberus Harrier (Assault Rifle): highest DPS of all Assault Rifles, can be used in the same manner as the SMGs, with Incendiary Ammo to trigger combos.
Aside weapons, gear is always important:
• Mental Focuser: most people stick with Adaptive War Amp (which gives Biotic damage bonus), but since Phase Disruptor is a Combat Power, this one works better, giving Power damage bonus.
• Shield Booster: More shields equals to more damage from Phase Disruptor!
• Geth Scanner: useful when solo'ing, allowing the player to be one step ahead of enemies.
• Performance (Enemies)
VS Cerberus
• Over half of the enemies here have Shields/Barrier, so fire the Acolyte and BOOM BOOM BOOM.
• Phantoms, Dragoons and Nemeses can be a pain the ass to hit with Phase Disruptor since they move fast. Try to stun them with the Acolyte or Biotic Slash first.
• Guardians can be a bit annoying to deal with, since their large shields can and will block Phase Disruptor. Either use advantage of the bouncing projectiles of the Acolyte to hit them from behind or use a secondary weapon with Armor Penetration mods.
VS Geth
• Geth move slower and are overall larger targets, making easier targets.
• Careful with the high stunning power of the Geth, this can prevent you from using Phase Disruptor effectively. It is advised to be even more defensive when fighting them.
VS Reapers
• Delicious enemies to farm and spam Phase Disruptor. Brutes, Ravagers and Banshees move slowly (when not Biotic Jumping), allowing you hit them in the face without many problems.
VS Collectors
• As with all classes, the Collectors are extremely dangerous (which makes no sense since technically the Reapers are superior) and should be take care with caution.
• Swarm debuffs will not disable Phase Disruptor since it has no cooldowns.
• Performance (Allies)
With a Volus constantly Shield Boosting, you can be virtually invincible and spam infinite Phase Disruptors.
Adepts
• Although you won't be able to detonate Biotic Explosions with Phase Disruptor, many debuffers will provide extra source of damage for you (such as Warp)
Soldiers
• The N7 Slayer can unleash near infinite Tech Combos with Vorcha Soldier or Geth Trooper using Flamer.
Engineer
• Almost all Engineers are good to use with the N7 Slayer, since he can detonate their setups with Phase Disruptor.
Sentinel
• The N7 Slayer can unleash near infinite Tech Combos with Vorcha Sentinel using Flamer.
• N7 Paladins can work great as they can set combos with Snap Freeze easily.
Infiltrator
• Some Infiltrators play similar roles of Engineers into detonating/setting combos, as they share few Tech Powers.
• Alliance Infiltrator Unit can use Snap Freeze as well, giving you another squadmate to set up powerful combos.
Vanguard
• Have another N7 Slayer Megaman for even more fun!
• Tips and Tricks
• The best stages for this class/build are the large ones (such as Dagger, Vancouver and London). Phase Disruptor has pretty much infinite range and allows the Slayer to play as a Sniper.
• Make sure to always set up your combos with your weapon + Incendiary Ammo in order to detonate with Phase Disruptor (which is, remember, a Combat Power, not Biotic),
[b]• Final Considerations:
In general, this class is pretty fun to use once you get hang of it. One of the problems is that it is very easy to get carried away and burn all your with Phase Disruptor spam, which proves to be a problem in situations where you can't Charge. Dealing with Phase Disruptor's small delay is also something that takes practice, making very easy to miss shots against fast enemies.
I hope you enjoy this build! Suggestions and comments are always welcome.
