Undoubtedly, but a vital one. What precedent are you worried about?
Basically, we would be rewriting the basis upon which we define what constitutes a life, which is not something to be taken lightly. This goes back to your answer to whether or not someone should go to prison for dismantling a laptop with an AI on it. How do you define what constitutes life? How do you determine whether or not a person should have their own way of life forfeit because they shut down or dismantled equipment that they acquired legally, which only served to the apparent detriment of what is essentially a manufactured set of code? Let's say a man had an AI-equipped robot walking around the house. Let's say that the robot's power source began to malfunction, and the man just didn't want to pay the price of replacing it? Should this be criminal neglect? Why? For all intents and purposes, both the man and the robot in this scenario would be slave to the cost constant maintenance required to keep it running indefinitely, especially since the robot has no actual expiration date. It will just stop working as far too many things break down to be repaired.
Why are those who choose Control and Synthesis so much happier with the ending?

Fascinating that being compared to a robot actually insults you. I'd hardly mind (depending on the model).
If asked to choose between a fertilized egg and a computer which to be my friend, I'd choose the computer without hesitation. But that's just me.
That's because you can surf porn on a computer. What the hell is an egg going to do for you?

No really, stop talking. Now. Comparing a robot to me being human, especially sense I was always born a person and have always enjoyed the life style that many people did not and still do not, is without a doub the single most stupid, ignorant, and facepalm worthy comment I have ever heard. Seriously, stop talking. The amount of absurdity from this statement is nauseating.Xilizhra wrote...

Neither were you, once.EDI isn't a person.
Well, then, would you be so kind as to tell me?I don't think you get what I'm acutally mad about. Which is unsurprising
given the general lack of sense you portray with the statement.

I disagree. imo, EC is the best possible outcome. While the original ending was entirely too vague and ambiguous, the EC fills in the blanks and still allows us to wonder what the future has in store for the citizens of the galaxy. As well as allowing us to decide what our Shepards do with the rest of their lives. Shame IT got destroyed. But it was rather ridiculous anyways.iOnlySignIn wrote...
I never asked for a conventional victory. I was perfectly happy with the original endings and all the speculations.Mcfly616 wrote...
Oh, please....it was not. Conventional victory was never going to happen. Let it go.iOnlySignIn wrote...
Oh, and Refuse which is BioWare's way of saying **** you to those who dislike the original endings.
Then EC came out and eliminated any real chance for the player to use their own imagination to come up with better interpretations (such as IT). Now you really have to do what Star Brat says, or face annihilation.
How is that an improvement? EC is the worst possible outcome of any kind of fan - creater interaction.

The silly part of all this is that the same people trying to claim that humans have a super-special secret component which makes them alive that can't be replicated by man for some reason are the ones who whine about precisely the same thing concerning Synthesis.

Then by your logic, the production of the actual parts, as well as the manufacturing of the code that comprises the entirety of artificial intelligence is one massive slave trade. Both the corporations and their customers would be guilty of this, by the logic you're using, and their production would be halted as it would be illegal, and AI would cease to exist.

So if synthetics are people what should we make of EDI destroying Eva Core?
Did EDI murder a prisoner, is she a war criminal?
Eva was trying to take over the ship. EDI's allowed to kill her if she can't restrain her. Since we'd only have EDI's word about what was possible, you'd never get a conviction.
