Why are those who choose Control and Synthesis so much happier with the ending?

There is no reason for there to be a galactic dark age in Destroy. The galactic dark age didn't make sense even in the original endings.

You have hundreds of dead Reapers (thousands perhaps, if you include the Destroyers) floating around, all of them waiting to be disassembled, studied, and reverse engineered. The technology used to create the Mass Effect relays will be readily available, and without the risk of indoctrinating the scientists and engineers tinkering with it.

is there no risk? what about the derelict reaper? but i think it's an amusing (to me at least) thought. what if the dead reapers still could indoctrinate? what would the indoctinated do/be like?

Indoctrination happens through nanites, which are all dead now.

The proper spelling of "your," friend. It's still a spelling mistake that I made.

You used a correctly spelled word, just the wrong type, hence, it's grammar problem.

Assuming that the destroy wave has the same effect on the reapers as the mass accelerator weapon that made the derelict, a sensible alternative would be to use telepresence and just have drones manage study and salvage, particularly whatever powers them.

The Derelict Reaper and the Leviathan of Dis were able to indoctrinate because the Reapers and the Catalyst still existed, and both were still partly functional. The derelicts maintained an ability to indoctrinate and the intact Reapers and/or the Catalyst still maintained an ability to command. All of that is gone after Destroy. There is nothing left to give commands and presumably all functionality has ceased.

Both endings show a Citadel perfectly fine orbiting Earth.

Sync Citadel blows up in the original cut and is notably absent from EC slides, unlike in Destroy/Control (relays, too).

I think the implication is that they are both gone, in this ending.

I've seen nothing that says the Reapers are free from anything.

It's not said, but it's the most sensible explanation.

Think about it: the option of leaving the Reapers under Catalyst control already exists, so if they shared the same fate in Sync, it would be pretty redundant. Grant it, it's two different Catalysts, but that's arguing semantics. Control is control.

Also, I think the whole point of the ending is that organics trying to destroy and/or control synthetics -- even just a small minority among their population -- is exactly what precludes peace between both parties. So it's thematically incompatible to choose a pro-peace solution but maintain what can be seen as a form of slavery. Freeing them, however, fits.

I also believe that the Catalyst wanted to find a better solution for some time, but one where the Reapers would not go to waste as mere servents, perhaps gaining autonomy. That, of course, is an idea many around here have issues with, given what they are. I (as well as others), however, have argued that those issues are merely symbolic ones.

That last part is just my personal interpretation on the matter, not further evidence.
