Why are those who choose Control and Synthesis so much happier with the ending?

This is something I've noticed since the EC's release. Those who choose Destroy and Refuse tend to speak of their ending as the best of a bad lot. Those who choose Control and Synthesis tend to be more enthusiastic about their ending choice and be more accepting of the ending scenario overall. Why is that? Is it a case of the minority opinion having to be able to defend itself more ably? Or do Synth/Control people want something different from the ending than Destroy/Refuse?

OK, here is my thinking.  We do become attached emotionaly to the characters.  Yes, we know it isn't real, but there is an immersion factor that makes you form a connection.

OK, that decided, these two endings allow for those characters to remain alive.  The synthesis ending for me was the best in some ways.  I liked that the geth and Quarians had found peace and would now work together on their homeworld.  I also liked that Edi was now as "human" as any human, and so her relationship would make sense with Joker.  And, I did like Joker as a character in the story, so I liked that he found love.  LOL  So anyway, these tow endings are the only ones that allow you that.

What would have made it better, is the one thing that I liked in the destruction ending...the possibility for Shepard to possibly live.  My perfect ending would have had Edi, the Geth, and Shepard all survive.  What would have been perfect is for the very end to be for Shepard to show up at his LI's home/workplace and surprise her/him, after having been unconscious for a while in a hospital.   I had even envisioned one where if it is a male Shepard, he shows up and meets a child, about 2 years old, playing in the yard...and is obviously his.  The mother comes out to see who the child is talking to, and is surprised and emotional to see who it is.  This of course would require that he be in a coma for a while, and then not remember who he is, and the hospital staff also not know who he is, thinking he is just another soldier.  After time, his memories start to return, maybe sparked by seeing somebody like Joker, or the Normady's Doctor.

Anyway, i think the fact that Edi and the geth get to live are the main reasons people like these two endings.  Also, in the Control ending, Shepard is stil alive in a way, though now immortal and different.  In the synthesis ending, there is this feeling that the future now holds so many new and interesting possibilities because the Reapers are no an asset to the Galaxy, and the civilizations now have the collective knowledge of thousands of previous cycles.  That tickles a part of the mind that likes to imagine a limitless future.

I think it has to do with the cost of destroy being apparent. The cost of control and synthesis seem minimal compared to the cost of destroy.

Right off the bat, Shepard is told how destroy will not just wipe out the reapers, others will be killed also. Whereas with control and synthesis, while they may have ethical implications, they only require Shepard sacrificing his or herself.

So those who wish to rid the galaxy of the reaper threat, can only do so if they sacrifice an entire race of synthetics. Whereas if you choose to accept or control the reapers, you can do so without wiping out another race. It kinda makes you feel like a douche ( to say the least ) for wanting to stop the reapers.

Instead of feeling like a hero, those who choose destroy get a feeling of being a villan. Which can be said for the other two choices. However, most who choose them do not think so

That is just my opinion and what i have personally observed. I only know five people that actually played the game, and whatever their choice, they always agreed that the cost of the geth did influence them. I also know that not everyone that chooses destroy will care about the geth, but they are usually the ones that choose it so readily.

P.S. when i said "stop the reapers" or "rid the galaxy of the reaper threat" i didn't mean that control and synthesis do not stop the reapers. Only that destroy is the only option that rids the galaxy of their threat, because it is the only option that rids the galaxy of them

P.P.S. i know shepard doesn't truly die ( well s/he does but they come back ) in control, but s/he can no longer interact with those s/he cared about. S/he can only watch over them and the galaxy. Shepard cannot download into a synthetic body and run through the fields with his/her crew. S/he gives up everything to control the reapers. Synthesis, however, is a different story with limitless possibilities. So go nuts

@RustyLH

Fair enough, though i don't think it was that big of a issue for Joker and Edi to be in a relationship prior to synthesis. Nor do I think synthesis was required in order for Edi to feel like she belonged

Quite the opposite for the most part.  The people who make the decision to either Control or Synthesize have to put more thought behind it because they are new choices, instead of reflexively saying "NO!  ALL THE REAPERS MUST BE DEAD.  IT IS THE ONLY CHOICE THAT ANYONE SHOULD EVER MAKE!  WHY ARE YOU EVEN TRYING TO TRICK ME INTO LETTING THEM LIVE?!?!?"

You see, someone who isn't engaged in thinking about that choice can't see it as a choice.  Now, someone who IS thinking about that choice can very well come to the conclusion that Destroy is a better option, but people who think about the CHOICE are likelier to be less outraged than those who don't.

Sudden exposure to illogical narrative parts confuses the mind. As the mind desires to continue enjoyment of the story the elements are digested as a separate system and processed with multi setting components and assumptions. It not a choice as an ending but a normative analysis of ideal outcomes rather than a positive analysis of all in setting information and rational potential. The player projects their own agency through the imagining of the outcome and bypasses the reality of the illusion. This is also why many are so obsessed with Shepard existing in future games because Shepard is their avatar of empowerment and by continuing to exist validates their sense of accomplishment. It can also be used to explain aversion to an alternate universe as it would conflict with their sense of accomplishment in their "real life" (in game setting) because they lack a sense of empowerment in their "true life" ( actual world ) regardless of their true abilities and abilities to acknowledge them.

My ending was to uninstall the game because of my dissatisfaction with quality relative to previous Bioware works and lack of enjoyment or sense of value in play time compared to other recreational activities.

Funny thing is, that guy has flipped-flopped on the ending since he registered here.

He signed on as a Sync supporter (notice the username) but then this forum's Israeli lobby Destroy supporters managed to turn his loyalty to Destroy for a while, which they celebrated. Later he switched to Control, then back to Sync, and he's been flip-flopping ever since. Right now he's claiming to be pro-Destroy? In about a week he'll be back to Control. LOL!

Well, maybe not, now that I've exposed him. We shall see, though.

I like em all. Depends on the Shepard.

One of my FemSheps will pick Synthesis and say her goodbyes as best she can, before going in the beam to the unknown.

Do we really need loyalty to an ending of a video game?

Hell, 'literal Synthesis' repulses me, but I only get irked at those who defend it like it was Shepard's goal all along. Which isn't the point of it. It's the 'new' solution.

Why should we stay loyal to an ending? Is there a reason to do that? It's not like I'm running for political office. Of course I can say I was against it before I was for it, then. Or I was for it before I was against it.
