I am going to based my experiences with the current console generation: PS3 and Xbox 360  The followings are my experiences.

Initially, I supported Xbox 360 over PS3 because:

1. Xbox 360 had lower prices at launch.

2. Xbox 360 had better launch titles.  Halo 3, BioShock, and Mass Effect were the "Trinity" of Xbox 360's launch titles.  All three titles scored over 90+ at Metacritic.    PS3's launch titles paled in comparison.  None of PS3's launch titles scored 90 or better at Metacritic; the best-scored launch title was Uncharted, which had 89 metascore at launch.  The much-touted Lair was an embarrassed disappointment.  Everything else was just... okay.

However, as years went by, PS3 overtook Xbox 360 and became the better console.  Today, PS3 is a more appealing console than Xbox 360 because:

1. Xbox 360 suffered from serious quality problems, particular the infamous Red Ring of Death.  We found out that Microsoft compromised quality to rush Xbox 360 into the market to get a headstart before PS3.   Xbox 360 had abysmal warranty and replacement policies.  Many Xbox gamers were forced to re-purchase and replace Xbox 360.

2. Xbox 360 lost its exclusive titles over the years.  The losses of Bungie and the BioShock and Mass Effect franchises were particularly heavy blows to Microsoft.

3. Many Xbox 360's so-called "exclusives" turned out to be timed/temporary exclusives, exclusive DLCs, or "console" exclusives that are also available for the PC.  That was deceptive and misleading marketing.

4. Over time, PS3 has built up more and better exclusive titles in the long run.  Today, PS3 has more and superior exclusive titles than Xbox 360.  PS offers superior mid-to-late-generation titles like The Last of Us, the Uncharted franchise that got better over time, the LittleBigPlanet franchise, etc., which scored much higher than Xbox 360's mid-to-late-generation offerings.  Xbox's 360 mid-to-late-generation exclusive titles like Alan Wake, Fable games and Too Human faltered and disappointed.    PS3 has turned out to be a better long-term investment.

As third-party publishers and developers moved away from developing exclusives for Microsoft (or Sony,) Sony's first-party studios became its competitive advantage over Microsoft.  On the other hand, Microsoft have lost all its AAA studios.  Most notably, Bungie defected, and EA bought BioWare.  The quality of Halo games have in a slow decline since Bungie left the franchise, so the Halo franchise has lost much of its appeal.  Microsoft have also shut down a series of other internal studios like Emsembles and FASA.

In terms of exclusives, Xbox 360 won the intiial battle -- but lost the war to PS3 in the end.

5. Microsoft (and Toshiba) lost the hi-def media war.  Blu-ray defeated and oblierated HD -DVD.   PS3, which included a blu-ray player, turned out to be a batter deal down the road.  I ended up buying a PS3 because I finally decided to buy a blu-ray player when blu-ray became the standard hi-def media.

Based on those experiences, I am more inclined to support PS4 over Xbox One in the upcoming generation.  In fact, I do not even plan to buy Xbox One because of my overwhelmingly negative experiences with Xbox 360, particularly with Xbox 360's quality problem.

Xbox One's launch titles do not appeal to me -- neither do PS4's.  However, based on PS3's (and PS2's) track records,  I expect PS4 to ultimately build up a better library than Xbox One over time and end up with more and superior exclusives in the long run.    I am expecting most of Xbox One's so-called "exclusives" to go over to PS4, based on what happened to Xbox 360's "exclusive" titles.

Finally, the $100-less price tag is very important to my decision.

I am coming from a consumer POV.  Honestly, the "which console has better graphics"  or "which console has more raw power" does not really matter to me, at all.  I do not think it matters to most people.

So that's my take.  What's yours?

I agree with what you said about this gen, but still unsure of the next gen. I am favouring PS4 at moment primarily for the indie horror games, but still not certain because many of the PS3 titles had a very Japanese feel, which I don't particularly like. I don't like the Final Fantasy style games that PS always churns out, Xbox always had better exclusives for my tastes - plus the PS3 controller just feels weird while playing FPS.

I will eventually buy both, but not certain which to go with as it would feel wrong to play new DA or ME on PS4, with all the other games in series on Xbox.

Nor was Halo 3.

And I'll be waiting too, you can guarantee some weirdness will go down with one or the other after launch. Inclined to switch to PS though.

Apparently and I mean apparently the Xbox One is surprising a lot of people in a good way, my buddy went to this showcase and apparently was really impressed, but I still have my doubts and as of right now - I'm PS4.

If the X1 decides to drop the price in the next year or two and get rid of the Kinect, I'll pick it up, but as of now - no. There are no titles that interest me, the cloud system sounds great, but I we'll see when it actually goes into the works and my PC is still superior to both consoles, ha.

Come back to me when the games on those consoles offer something more than superior graphics.

I regretted getting both consoles last generation but I would have to say that I am slightly more likely to side with the PS4 since Sony seems less likely to shove "**** you" policy's in my face and claim its what I wanted.

That it took fan outcry for micrsosoft to even realize just how bad it was is pretty concerning, not to mention this is not the first time they have tried to screw us. Everyone remember windows Live and what a wonderful thing that was for gamers? I dont want big companies telling me what I want in a product, I dont want to pay extra for technology that they still have yet to prove can actually enhance my experience and I dont want to find out I have been locked out of games I bought in full price because of garbage DRM.

At least I can honestly say I have never bought a 60+ dollar sony game and gotten locked out of it because of BS DRM.

Neither. Need more games and time to find out if the hardware isn't a mess. Now a new pc with that X1 controller is quite appealing.

PC, although later I might pick up a console.

As of right now, neither of the console's launch lineup excites me all that much and I'd rather wait and let them sort out any hardware issues that they might have.

I'm trying real hard to keep an open mind to Microsoft and the XBox One and I'm hoping that by this time next year I might own both consoles but at the moment I am throwing all my support ( and cash ) behind Sony's PS4.

To be honest, it wasn't an easy decision to make. In terms of performance there is very little between the two ( ruour has it the PS4 is more powerful but the XBox One exclusives look better visually ) neither console has a launch line up that truly impresses, I don't give a crap about Titanfall since I'm not a fps fan and I don't like the fact that there is no single player campaign and last but not least I don't do the multi player thing so Microsoft and all there servers means nothing to me. At the end of the day it came down to price and Kinect, I am very anti Kinect and refuse to have a working one in my house, by the time Microsoft had confirmed that the XBox One could work without the Kinect I had already put down a sizeable deposit on the PS4. I am also making an investment for the future in the PS4, historically speaking Sony's consoles have always had some pretty amazing exclusives. With the exception of a handful of IP's the best Microsoft can do is throw money at people and buy exclusives for thier systems whereas Sony makes there own stuff in house.

If I had to choose I'd definitely go with the PS4. But I likely won't get one for at least a or two year after release.

PS4.

Right now amazing storytelling is Play Station exclusive feature. I really doubt that will change in near future. Beyond: Two Souls, and The Last of Us games are just a beginning, and they are great even on PS3. I believe you can imagine PS4 capabilities, considering the fact that Sony and devs working for them are eager to create more amazing stories.

PS4 seems like the better console but the launch title exclusives are not very appealing to me. KZ Shadow Fall is the only decent one but there are 2-3 FPS games I'd rather get over it.

X1's lineup looks more appealing but it's all just an illusion. History will repeat itself and almost every 3rd party "exclusive" will come to other platforms eventually. Also the recent 180 reversal on policies and features may mean that the X1 is not going to have a smooth launch.

"Side?  I am on nobody's side.  Because nobody is on my side, little orc."

Seriously, neither side is trustworthy, it's common sense to wait at least a year to see which side is the worse choice then choose the least bad option.

PS4. Just about everything the Xbox has is worse than what the PS4 has.

I like how xbone is more expensive yet nothing shows why it needs to be at such a high price.

All the people that tried to bully me into getting a PS4 are getting a PS4 so I went X1.
