When was Shepard told that the collectors destroyed the Normandy in Mass Effect 2? I know that when you talk to Tali about upgrades, she'll mention that the collectors ripped through the old shields easily, and when you meet Wrex, Shepard will mention that the collectors destroyed the Normandy.

But when exactly does Shepard learn this? Shepard learns about the collectors in Freedom's Progress, and by the time he's helping Mordin, and still recruting people, nobody explained that it was a collector ship that destroyed the normandy, yet Shepard and apparently Tali already know?

Some people say you learn about it 30 minutes into the game......really?

When you board the Collector ship.

Joker tells you over the comm that on a hunch, he told EDI to scan the ship's EM profile, and that it's the same ship that attacked the Normandy.

Shepard's response: The same ship dogging me for two years? Way beyond coincidence.

It also isn't a logical leap by the time he sees their ship on Horizon.

I doubt very much that is the first anybody has seen (and survived) seeing a Collector ship. They do have dealings with various folk in the Terminus systems. Surely, there would be info about what their ships looked like. Once it was determined that the Collectors were behind the abductions on Freedom's Progress, someone (probably TIM) would have informed Shepard that the Collectors were responsible for the destruction of the Normandy. Indeed, I believe he mentions how the Collectors are intersted in Shepard before she even steps foot on Horizon. He talks about the VS and them being stationed there and how this might have attracted Collector attention.

I know, but even before this, several squadmated are already mentioning that the Collector Ship was the one who destroyed the Normandy. Tali is a good example, and when Shepard arrives in Tuchanka, Wrex asks about the Normandy, to which Shepard responds that it was destroyed by a Collector Ship.

I mean even before it is explicitly said and explained when you board the collector ship, it is mentioned and heavily implied. Yet there's not a "scene" or moment where we're told this (before boarding the collector ship).

It's probably something like this.

Cerberus pretty much knows since the Shadow Broker tried to sell Shepards body to the Collectors. It's likely someone told Shepard off-screen.

Off-screen conversation with Miranda, Jacob, or Joker after Freedom's Progress would be the easiest explanation.
