Who uses Windows 8 on a PC? Right now with 8.1 would be the EARLIEST point to even remotely consider that OS over Windows 7.

Urgh, okay. I feel for you. Never the less, how could an OS scramble a server side maintained content list like a Steam library?

I suppose you've already contaced Steam support on this one, right?
Now, I haven't done any research, but even, so, if this were a regular occurence I'm quite sure I would have heard of it. I suspect it might actually be a Steam server screw up. Because I really can't see how an OS, no matter how bad, could effect your Steam library/account

To clarify, nothing has disappeared from my Steam library. It's just that 240+GB of content is gone and I have to reinstall it all on my 1Mbps connection. If games disappeared from my library I would be absolutely furious.Neofelis Nebulosa wrote...

Ah, okay. Had the wrong idea all along. That does indeed sound like your typical OS BS.

Lesson to be learned from me:
The new laptop of my sister (an Asus Core i7) is only compatible with Win 8. That cheater seller said to us in a way that windows 8 is optional, installed it and sold it to us. If I knew win 8 is compulsory (there is no drivers for win 7), I wouldn't let my sister to buy that laptop. Now sometimes it has crash and windows start up problems... it is so inconsistent. I should have told her to buy that HP Probook...
Write and ask necessary questions from sellers and shopkeepers and make them to answer them exactly. Don't let them deceive your judgement.

How could a laptop not be compatible with Win7? That's BS, as long as a PC, be it desktop or laptop fulfills the minimum requirements to run the OS, you can install and use it.

https://www.asus.com...#specifications
There is no driver for win 7 in Laptop's driver CD. There is some win 7 drivers on the internet, but they seem unofficial and risky. Still it's not much stable in Win 8 itself. Maybe it was merely bad luck to buy the semi broken 1 in 200 laptop. I had never trusted Asus in my life...
It's more like some new motherboard parts that don't support win XP, or in older cases win 98. So installing those old windows is pointless.

It has an optical drive, that means you can just install Win7 from a CD/DVD provided you have a spare license lying around.
There's no reason it shouldn't be able to run Win7. As for why older OSs might not work, or only work glitchy, how much RAM does that laptop have? Because most older OSs only have 32bit versions, XP for instance only has a very limited 64bit version that only works on a very specific intel CPU architecture and chipset. But this is not the case here, I just did a short google search and know for a fact that the i7 4700HQ is compatible with Windows 7.
