There was a horde of darkspawn coming their way. Standing there and protecting the whole village because some wouldn't budge is suicidal. If some villagers decided to stay instead of following the Chantry and templars, it's their own fault.
well thats same can be told about elthina...
Elthina didn't know someone planted a bomb inside the Chantry. You didn't know Anders would blow up the place.

So what Ser Bryant said "we now protecting the innocent" is BS, the Templars just protecting the Chantry priests and the Chantry
Edit : That's why there's a job to kill bandits on the Chanter board

Wouldn't budge, couldn't budge, possibly couldn't leave on time for other reasons? Who knows? We never will.LOLandStuff wrote...

Which is possibly the dumbest thing she's ever said. People in power always have more people wanting to do them harm, not fewer. She did said that she was the grand cleric and no one could hurt her.

They said they chased them away several times. The last time they did, that dead templar wasn't even there else they'd have taken serious measures against the bandits. No one else died because of the bandits but one templar who happened to be laying on the ground when you arrived.

Witch Hunt explicitly states that the Templars were the only military force that remained behind, and that many of the Templars remained in Lothering and held of the Darkspawn, while the villagers attempted to escape.Xilizhra wrote...

No they don't, they are not the elite police force, they are the agent of religious organization, their job is to protect the Chantry and to execute Chantry policy
They need to be disbanded because their existence itself is religious bias. Not everyone are Andrasterians, Templar function is to spread the religion with sword
Their job (in this case) is to protect the Chantry (the building) and the people in it and the village. Also all mundanes. And to an extent mages.
Not everyone is Adrastian? So what? The dangers of magic do not recogninze borders. In Andrastian lands rules andrastian laws. Submit or GFTO.
Just like...oh.. EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD.
And how the hell can an exstance of a police force itself be "religious bias"?

Exactly. The templars will never work. They are Lyrium addicts that are fed on the chantry paranoia that mages should be kept on an tight leach with no freedom whatsoever. What king Alistair suggested was best. Create an circle tower with no ties to the Chantry, and the mages would be watched over by knights sent by the kingdom.
In other words, turn the circles into personal weapons of the king, used for their pety wars and feuds, with no higher oversight or no one to answer to?

The job is there because the bandits run away every time they see the templars approaching.
And the templars have their hands full with keeping peace and order inside the villlage.
There is only one source of BS on this thread... look into the mirror and open your mouth to find out what it is.

Greagoir letting mages outside the Circle to help against the Blight? The nerve!
it is because his job is to PROTECT THE CHANTRY, hunt "illegal Mages" and watch the Mages in the Circle
Surely Templar is at Denerim in final battle but Templars do nothing, they only watch Mages

Ohoho, you make it sound like it's better then the system the Chantry inflicts. Let's face it. You are just too afraid to try new ideas because you fear they might actually work, right?

Like creating a police force as harsh as those belong to communists and fascists? Still doesn't completely work for mages and bandits hides on the road and forest? What about sending flowers, bunnies and rainbows to the bandits or mages, so they don't do bad works?! Well using guarding golems on the road might work, but still it's my idea not yours.

Contradicted exactly where?
Because the Hawkes, who stayed behind, don't contradict templars buying time or protecting the vilalge after all other forces left.

While a Mage can serve the society in many ways, becoming healers, engineers, and surely magic have many uses, "magic exist to SERVE MEN", so Mages even when old, they can serve the society with their magic
But Templars...they are NOTHING but drug addicts, and i believe they will do anything to get their drug...their mind is twisted and they will be harmful to the society
All that happen is symptom of the corrupt system run by the Chantry, if there is no Chantry and it's Circle, things will turn out differently. Maybe even better
So, there is no middle ground here, the world must change, from old order...to New World Order...heheh

The templars left before Hawke did, in addition to being before many other villagers did, as shown in the "many innocents were slaughtered " line of the prologue.

You get a single line from one of the Hawke's which is highly subjective, versus the objective statement from DA:O. No retcon is necessary.Xilizhra wrote...
