I can't decide on which sibling to have, the classes don't really bother me too much, but I'm more of a duelist/rogue type of player. It just suits me better.

The real problem is which sibling I should have. I've gotten mixed reviews from people and I just can't really decide a hundred percent on either,

It sounds like the majority like Bethany, but I question why it is so. While a nice sibling could be "fun", I question if this is even a sound story choice. From what others say is that, yeah she is nice and all, but that's it.

On the other hand you have Carver. While people say they dislike him, I kinda have to disagree in that he brings something to the table. He contests your decision and adds a lot to the story. Reminds me of Alistair. While I think he is an alright guy and I'm friendly to him, that moment he craved power just to end Loghain's life, he had crossed the line. I will not give that whiny crybaby power just to kill someone that gave him a boo boo that he is being extremely biased about in the first place. Alistair may have distasted the chantry, but he sure picked up a few things along the way, even if not exactly the same. I gave up my wish to save Alistair after Anora wanted him dead and he still went off to become some drunk.

Back on topic, even though Alistair did bring a lot of darkness into that story by the end, I honestly like it better then the whole "Perfect ending" people try to go for. Makes a very interesting story.

I played DA2 to the mid point where Carver left me because I didn't bring him along and I really liked the whole brother vs brother story it was turning out to become. Made things much more intense, even if I never played to the end.

Now, I want to play again, but all the way through this time to be ready for DA:I if I decide to get it.

So, what do you guys think? Which sibling do you think brings more to the story?

(Since I only played with Carver that one time, I don't really know much about Bethany and her role. All I know is that she joins the mages, which doesn't sound very interesting to me xD. I could be wrong though.)

I used to wonder that too kinda but in the end I like both of their playthroughs. With Bethany you're simply the protective older sibling of an apostate, with Carver you have sibling rivalry since he's always been in your shadow. It's just how you want to go about it.

I perfer Bethany, for extremely shallow reasons. :D I think her name is funner to hear and say than Carver's, I like her voice actress more than Carver's, and, well, Carver is intentionally ugly in all of his different looks. :3 And it always amuses me when you're talking to Meeran and Bethany says "I never pictured myself as a mercenary" ^.^

And I like tank Hawke the best in DA2 anyways.

I'm biased in that I like Carver better. I like the conflict that starts his and Hawke's relationship and if you go the friendship route and have him become a Warden. I like the development that follows. This is even more fun, IMO, if you play sarcastic FemHawke.

I'm not sure that murdering his mentor/father figure and trying repeatedly to kill Alistair counts as a "boo boo," but whatevs.

Bethany may also join the Grey Wardens if you bring Anders into the Deep Roads.

I agree that Carver has a more positive character development  if he becomes a Grey Warden, especially if you're metagaming to get approval and manage to friend him.  Even with full rivalry, he starts finding his own way in purpose.

Bethany is the opposite.  Even with 100% friendship she becomes bitter and more cynical, based on her DLC banter.  She actually writes a letter if she's a circle mage that being in the circle was all she ever wanted anyway if she had to have magic at all.

Bitter Bethany also gives us a rare moment of truth from Sarcastic Hawke.
one of many moments that make it so fun to be as glib as possible throughout the the game

to be honest with Bethany she kind of had to do that. A lot happens when she is a warden and she can do nothing about it, so she "freezes" her emotions. I also like that Bethany, shows that she is a human being, and shows that sometimes the best choice does not always lead to happiness.

I always play a rogue. But it is more because playing a mage doesn't seem realistic. You play an apostate mage and you expect to have to look over your shoulder a lot.

As Varric "Everyone around town is saying your name". That basucally means the templars should know about me and come looking. But they never do, not once. It just seems odd that of all the illegal mages hiding around Kirkwall that the templars are hunting down and making tranquil they never even bother the one mage who seems to go out of their way to be noticed.

I agree, Mage Hawke seems to make no sense whatsoever in the overall storylines, but the general feel might be more in tune with the mage.

In Act 1 I headcannon that the name Hawke might be known around town but no one outside lowtown knows where the owner of it lives and they're no more disposed to talk to the templars than a modern slum resident would be to a cop.  In Act 2 it's because Hawke is the richest person in town whose loss would dry up important coffers.  In Act 3 even Meredith isn't going to mess with the Champion.  Meredith makes a veiled threat if Hawke refuses her request during On the Loose and Hawke's influence only extends so far to companions if Anders is along on quest completion.

Playing with a Mage currently and nothing noticeable happens until Meredith mentions it when you are going after the Qunari...

Strongly dislike Carver. Whines and nitpicks everything. Throws a tantrum and joins the templars of all things and gives you a snide comment about not ratting you out as he leaves to the training. It just seems like he becomes a templar to spite you.

Bethany is just a "good soul" and likes an occasional joke. Whether you leave her behind or bring her along on the deep roads. She doesnt cop attitude.

Huh, actually completely agree with the OP (even regarding feelings towards Alistair). I actually like both siblings quite a lot, to the point where I always use them as much as possible until they part ways with Hawke. Not a fan at all that the one you keep depends on your class choice. I'm replaying the game and going as a goody two-shoes spirit healer mage and I'm trying to aim for full friendship with Carver. I think it'd allow for a much more interesting family relationship that I'm really looking forward to seeing. Especially when he becomes a warden (I have yet to try this). I actually feel like it suits his personality better and it gives him something to be inspired by and many opportunities to prove himself. Templar Carver is just too bitter and unhappy for me, but if that's what you're aiming for then go for it :P

If you don't like either one,you could always take them to the deep roads with you,and when you come back, they will eventually get infected(from being in the deep roads) and die.

I think that can happen to both Carver and Bethany.

Okay... So now we are picking which siblings we want dead, and which are appropriate to keep for a little while... Well... Let me think.... I say go for Bethany, because in varrics made up prologue thing, her, ahem, "breasts" are back breakingly bigger!
