Jowan, the mage that sucked so hard he needed to turn to blood magic to solve his problems. Then he screwed that up too. He got another chance, oh well, he screwed up again. I don't hate Jowan, but he was a weak fool and the Circle can do whatever they want with him.

And yes, he needs a haircut.

Sure why not. It would be consistent with Jowan's character if it's discovered that he's responsible for the veil tear.

Please, the real person to bring back is Owain. At least he knew that he was a failure of a mage.

I would be able to appreciate the various quirks and character development of Jowan if he didn't have that god damn voice. So no, no Jowan. Every time he talks I feel so much hatred towards him.

I thought Jowan was a decent fellow - if somewhat wishy-washy and whingy. He certainly tries to make up for his actions if you give him a chance later on. However, I'm really not interested in seeing him again (despite considering him my elf mage's friend)...unless it involves breaking his girlfriend Lily out of Aeonar. That might be fun. :P

Nah, he played his forgettable part in Origins. Once was enough.

Jowan was very week minded, his heart may have been in the right place and yes he did try and use blood magic to escape. He did this trying to escape with Lily, Lily at that time rejected him... had Jowan been truthful with her about what he was who knows. His weakness was then letting Lily take the fall for his actions by running away.

Jowan was far from being weak minded. Lily knew having a relationship with a mage was illegal by Chantry law, and she did it anyways. Being a blood mage is a serious offense (Is an automatic death sentence), and all of the mages knew about it. Why the hell would he tell Lily of all people about who he truly was? We saw just how unfaithful she was with him during the altercation between The Knight-Commander and her... And how Jowan used blood magic to PROTECT her... yet she was ungrateful and rejected him.

Jowan was right not telling her about being a blood mage. She was an untrusting person.

Why the hell would he be stupid enough to pursue a relationship with someone he knew he couldn't trust? Let me guess, he was thinking with his other brain.

Don't expect anyone who could die in a previous game, to return as a companion. That should be one of the main rules to remember. That being said, the game could probably handle if a single companion were one who had a chance to die in another game. However, this one character needs to be well-liked and important to the plot as to validate his presence in DA:I. Jowan is not one such person.

I didn't really like him in Origins. But that may be partly because I disliked the Mage Origin and am holding it against him.

Jowan is... an idiot. Let's count the ways:

"Oh, I might be Tranquilized... I know! I will learn Blood Magic and that will somehow make me a better Mage."

"Oh, I'm initiating a relationship with someone I can never trust with the full truth about me. That's a great start to a relationship."

"Oh, I am asking a friend of mine who I have known for 5-6 years. But, I'll still lie to him/her about being a Blood Mage even though I am asking him/her to risk his neck for me! He has to trust me. I don't have to put any amount of trust in him. I will lie to his/her face!"

"Oh, I'm a Maleficar on the run. I know! I will poison this noble while I secretly teach his son magic under the orders of another noble under the assumption that he will somehow be able to make things "right" with the Circle. Nevermind that he wouldn't have authority over it and it'd be easier for him to kill me so that no one would know he ordered a Maleficar/Apostate to poison another noble. No, he will definitely fulfill his end of the baragain even though the whole Circle knows I'm a Blood Mage."

Oh, and don't forget:

"I will poison a Mage child's father while I'm teaching him to control his powers. There is no way that the stress or grief would cause him to become vulnerable to demons even though that is the sort of thing I've learned about all my life."

No. I didn't find him a very compelling character even when I played a mage. I don't hate him, I'm simply indifferent.

@Lord Raijin: Where does it say I've known him all that time? Where does it say we're best friends? Are you by chance possessed by a Headcanon Demon?

If I had known him so well - why would I be able to ask about his parents in the chapel scene?

And what kind of friend asks you to commit crimes? A crap one.

I had absolutely ZERO experiences in my Origin mage playthru that indicated my life had ever been bad in the tower.

I'm only slightly curious as to what happens to him. I felt a little bad for him, but he was annoying, and he made terrible decisions. That they planned to make him tranquil does not excuse blood magic.

And there's no way they're making him a companion.

Maybe he legit cared for her? That he actually loved her? But why should he be obligated to tell her that hes a blood mage? We all witnessed just how unfaithful Lily truly was when she found out that he was a blood mage at the expensse of protecting her against the Knight-Commander.

So, she's untrustworthy, because she turns on him when she finds out he has been lying to her the whole time?

Yeah, that makes sense!

You keep saying Lily was unfaithful, when it was Jowan who lied to her. When he used the blood magic, she said I don't know who you are.  Meaning he hid what he was from her the entire time.

Are you possessed by a Game-Mechanics canon Demon? The point of asking him about his parents in the chapel scene was strictly game mechanics; to get to know the charecter and his history.

If you were a mage inside the Circle, and your friend came up to you with such concern that he was going to be made Tranquil, and you went to Irving to ask about it, and he confirmed it... wouldn't you as a friend do something about it? To help him escape? Or would you be a ****** poor friend and allow him to be made tranquil against his will over a claim of him being a blood mage? At the time their were no evidence that was given to you as proof that he was a blood mage.

Uh huh, Building a relationship on lies works so well. Rubbish. He wanted to bone her.

Now, that is what I call cognitive dissonance! You say that you shouldn't turn Jowan in because you don't know at the time that he's a Blood Mage, but before that, you said he wasn't obligated to tell Lily he was a Blood Mage because she later turned on him when she found out.

But, then, back before the escape, he had no proof that she'd turn him in.

No. It surprises me how many of these topics show up. A lot of people seem to like Jowan, for whatever reason.

Not a lot. But a few vocal ones, love Jowan like he is god's gift to man.
