Don't particularly care one way or another.

Him showing up as a tranquil(if you sent him back to the circle) or an abomination(if you set him free) would be a nice easter egg, I suppose.

YThe OP can go on youtube and see what his VA looks like.
I would guess the Templars either killed him, or sent him to the prison I mentioned earlier.
I guess it's possible the mages would ask the Inquisitor, if he/she is promage, to shut down the prison and release the captives, so we could see Jowan again if that happens.

Hell no. He was the whiniest little puke in Origins. Why would anyone want him around again?

Looking back I must admit that I admire him for not turning into an abomination despite losing his friend, gf, running from templars and eventually being tortured by isoldes men.

Oh, plus he was in the same building with connor, yet he never became an abomination?

While I dont want him to reappear it would be nice to confirm what happened to him....I have a feeling that he was made tranquil

The demons couldn't stand his whining, either. :P

In the Mage orgins gameplay Jowan is suppose to be a friend that you knew since 5 or 6 years old. Loyal is faithful to a cause, ideal, custom, institution, or product. You're suppose to be loyal to your friend by aiding him in his escape. That is what a good friend would do in such situation that he was in.  Why would I tell Irving when he agreed to having my friend to undergo the Rite of Tranquilly. At this point I must choose a side... betraying my bestfriend by telling Irving, or help him to escape. I rather choose my bestfriend because that is the person I am.

(Underlined emphasis mine)  What about loyalty to the organization that nutured, taught and protected you for the exact same time?

When I play the Mage Origin, I Openly acknoledge the friendship, but I run and tattle to Irving.

Ingame reason:  Friendship is good, and pulling pranks on templars fun, but getting Templars mad enough to come after me with sword drawn isn't worth it.

Or even as a Hedge Mage if set free.

Jowan was an idiot who turned to blood magic because of inferiority complex not for being cornered or about to be made tranquil.
The main reason they chose to make him one was because they suspected he dabbled in blood magic. Irving and Greagoir certainly weren't bored that day and decided for Tranquility.

Greagoir: What should we do today?
Irving: No idea.
Greagoir: I know. Let's make Jowan a Tranquil.
Irving: Why?
Greagoir: Why not?
Irving: Meh, nobody likes him anyway. And he whines too much.

They also make weak mages Tranquil, so it's reasonably possible Jowan would have been screwed regardless, note.

Weak willed mages are threatened with the possibility of Tranquility.

It has nothing to do with magic ability.

Note: and I don't mean someone threatens them - I mean that their out of control magic possesses too much of a threat.

No. I'd prefer new characters with fresh voice actors. It seems a lot of rpgs use the same voice actors and that gets old.

When I play a mage, I tell Jowan to head for the hills despite the approval loss from Wynne. I figure he was my friend and he doesn't deserve to die for the crime that I'm going to assign to either myself, Morrigan or Wynne, or possibly all three. Jowan is a weak mage. He gave in to the lure of becoming a stronger one through blood magic. He never sacrificed anything other than his own self and the relationship he risked everything for. Connor tore the veil and there were demons aplenty but he never became possessed. He would not have become an abomination had he undergone the harrowing. Note that an approval bonus is granted from Wynne if you stand by your decision to help Jowan and you haven't ratted him out. She's such a goody-two-shoes about everything but she approves of your helping a blood mage escape.

For the record, I don't find his VA whiney. I'm probably the only one but my own voice isn't melodic or even very feminine (think Charlie Brown's teacher mwah, mwah, mwaaaaah) and I think it takes all kinds. Why shouldn't DA have voices that reflect real people? They liked him well enough to voice many of the chanters and guards as NPCs in DAO. We can't all be Gideon Emery when it comes to vocal cords.

As to the topic: no, don't bring back Jowan. It's all been dealt with already and it's time to move on. This goes for Leliana and Morrigan too but it's too late for them, I think.

Isn't Jowan either dead or tranquil if you let the circle take him back?

I'd rather not have any cameos or appearances from past characters than those that are necessary. And Jowan's story seemed finished in Origins.

I wouldn't mind. I'd hope he'd make something of himself when/if we see him.

I would be able to appreciate the various quirks and character development of Jowan if he didn't have that god damn voice. So no, no Jowan. Every time he talks I feel so much hatred towards him.

Close your eyes an imagine if Hawke had Jowan's voice or try picture the Inquisitor as having it.

Uh huh, Building a relationship on lies works so well. Rubbish. He wanted to bone her.

I see it.... Jowan was just using Lily to escape from the Circle right? Is this your logic in “building a relationship on lies?” The fact that he was forced to use Blood magic to protect his lover against the Knight-Commander, who was keen on sending her off to Aeonar for aiding in his escape showed courage and loyalty for his woman.

almostinsane99 wrote...

Now, that is what I call cognitive dissonance! You say that you shouldn't turn Jowan in because you don't know at the time that he's a Blood Mage, but before that, you said he wasn't obligated to tell Lily he was a Blood Mage because she later turned on him when she found out.

But, then, back before the escape, he had no proof that she'd turn him in.

Perhaps I'm putting too much emphasis on “What would I do if I was in this kind of situation, and my friend was in Jowan's shoes?” I tend to use my RL emotions into RPing games such as Dragon Age.

The fact is their were absolutely NO evidence whatsoever at the time indicating that Jowan was a blood mage. Knight-Commander Greagoir or Irving (I forgot which one) mention that their were witnesses that saw him using blood magic, but what if it wasn't true? What if he was lying and wanted to use the Rite of Tranquility on Jowan due to personal reasons? Templars do abuse their position of authority, even those who carry around the rank of Knight-Commander; Martel and Meredith. I wasn't able to investigate the situation my self. Greagoir does not view Mages as people but as a tool to use.

If the Warden is not a Mage he will tell you this: "It is the innocent folk of Ferelden who matter. I would lay down my life, and the life of any mage, to protect them."

Whereas if your Warden is a Mage "Your magic is a gift, but it's also a curse. The Circle of Magi has trained you, and we templars of the Chantry stand vigil to ensure that training is adequate."

Meaning that you will do whatever the Chantry tells you to do.

At the end if you allow Jowan to escape he comes back at a later time protecting frighten villages from a horde of Darkspawn.

Yeah hes such a big bad blood magic that needed to be made tranquil. Comes to show you that the Chantry is full of ****, and that blood mages can be good people.

I read somehwere (TVTropes?) that if you send him back to the circle he can be seen marching with their army.

I've never seen him for sure, there.  This is a game where everyone is generated out of the same character creator with the same six hair color and styles.

There's also a quest you can get if you tell him to run, but it Conrads.

So do the Templars in Lothering. Jowan betrayed me and Lily. He deserved what he got. He said it himself.

I'm hoping for Cullen as a party member, though.
