I thought the word was "banditry."

I don't really care what they do, so long as they cram a few techno clubs in there.

..And here I thought GimmeDaGun just made one of the best posts I've seen about Mass Effect's longterm worth.

Funnily, before this, I thought he was one of the more belligerent people around here besides yourself, but no. You're in a whole category of doucheiness of your own.

He's mistaken. You're not going to get much worth out of continually shrinking things down, as practically everyone on this thread is suggesting.

Hopefully BioWare is smart enough to push past that. Storytellers generally are. It's weird. There are some elements that fans generally always consider themselves smarter with and more attentive to than storytellers. Like science, for example. And they're probably right. Well, this is something that goes in the opposite direction. Something storytellers always do better than audiences - pushing foward.

I disagree. I really like the "firefly" idea. It'd be great chance to see how the rest of the galaxy lives on a more personal level. It'd also be nice to be wrong side of the law, as opposed to having the galaxy worship you.

But if you have a better idea, go ahead, shoot.

I don't think fans are suggesting smaller scale because they actually consider it good. I'm guessing they're suggesting it because they aren't able imagine a large-scale villain and conflict that could be satisfying. Much like people are way more accepting of the Crucible than they should be.

People expect everything to wind down after the endings. To get smaller and quieter and softer. No. To survive, the franchise needs to get bigger. To push past it's past mistakes, not sink down into them. Much like Inquisition has done.

Don't give yourself away here Davey. That last sentence is dangerously close to revealing who and what you really are.

Patience.

That's not even how Mass Effect or Bioware approaches their own storytelling process. It's not so top down. They've asked for fan input themselves, they use statistic data to refine, they watch other people's works (such as Mac saying he got inspired by Gladiator as a way to write Shepard's dream sequences).

Confused!
What does scale and "shrinking things down" have to do with anything that I wrote?

Feel free to share your ideas then. It's easy to say that someone's idea is lame (yeah, it's true, most of the time it is, but note that we are not writers), but it's always difficult to come up with something which isn't. So if you have better suggestions, please, do share them. I'm eager to read them.

Don't worry, I tend to be a douche at times, so it's nothing new to me. No hard feelings. ;)

May have been said already, but i like the idea of playing as a merc in the next installment. Gives the chance to play as a different species ( if they wish to do that ) and it will give a perspective of the ME universe.

that's all i got

Well, different preferences... that's all.

And remember the title of the thread says: "What do YOU WANT the next ME game to be?". If I was at the helm, I would take things to the direction I described above. Since, I'm not the man in charge concerning the project, it's nothing but mere wishes of a fan. They are not expectations really. I'm open to everything good. If the game will not fit my style and taste, well.. then I will just play some other game. Not a big deal. It won't ruin my "love" for the ME universe or the original trilogy.

I think that it's much more difficult tor write something which is happenning on a smaller scale. It's much harder to keep you interested: it has to be a damn good story if you want to make it stand out and memorable.

No mistake I like grandiose and epic stories, but it would be a nice change of pace after the huge galactic war if they wrote something which would revolve around a more profane conflict and would have more focus on an intricate plot and more complicated characters than the original trilogy had. It was too grand in scale to repeat it or to top it. I enjoyed it, but I think there's more potential in the ME universe than writing a generic "epic" story again. Creating another galactic threat with another Shepard-like character would easily make the game a parody of the original trilogy and people would accuse Bioware for being totally uncreative and ripping themselves off, rightly so, I might add.

...oh and David, I don't think that people wanting something different has anything to do with the ending of ME at all (also I'm one of those who likes the ending).

Henry was never your typical 18 year old, he never fit in with other high school kids. Myrtle never acted like she was 82, and wasn't interested in bingo. Alone, they are outsiders, but together they are "Spring into Winter," this summer's most unusual buddy/romantic/comedy/action thriller. Watch as they find eachother in a world that frowns upon their love, as Henry must rescue Myrtle from Red October Terrorists out to steal her retirement pension in what critics are calling "a movie."

One word: Politics!
It's one thing about the Revelation novel I really liked. They really went into all the political intrigue that is going on between the species. Unfortunately in the games, the council mostly behaves rather stupidly. I'd like to see a game where we get between the fronts of political tensions between the races. E.g. how they all struggle to rebuild after the war and - given that all the major powers suffered heavy losses - everyone is now trying to carve out their little piece of the post war galaxy. It would be the perfect setup for it. Outwardly everyone works together to rebuild but behind the scenes, the rivalries between the species bring the galaxy to the edge of another war. You could play some sort of spy-like character who is involved or a completely unrelated guy who just gets into these scenes by accident.
However, if they did that, they'd definitely have to improve the way they display politicians and leaders in the game. They'd have to come across as competent, not as just a stumbling stone for the player (like the council did in the trilogy).

in this scenario a SPECTRE would fit well again - they are from their own race (so most of them are a little biased in favour of their own) but most of them want the galaxy to come together peacefully again (it would be nice to have paragon/renegade options based on this (renegade would be kind of "humanity first" (or whatever race - if we can play all of them!) and paragon "can't we all work together?")

greetings LAX
ps: i just don't want to play some unimportant nobody after being a SPECTRE that held the fate of entire races in his/her hand!
