Remake of Mass Effect 1, reboot of the series.

I would buy this. Easily.

That's, at this point, what makes ME1 a slog to play through, the combat was so crude. Even at the time the game was new, other games were doing it way better. It was just BW's first attempt to do shooter elements and it shows horribly.

Except at this point, rebooting ME1 would probably require Shepard to kill him/herself stopping the husk-Saren, or stopping Sovereign would require Joker to ram the Normandy into it, or some other "artistic" blood sacrifice.

Heh yeah, I wish you were joking. Things have become pretty death obsessed. Not sure the things they were trying to channel back then (Star Wars, Aliens, Heinlein, etc) even exist in their minds now. It's like watching a fellow geeky sci-fi buddy turn his back on all of that and start talking about Holocaust documentaries and finding solace in new-agey thoughts about the afterlife.

You have to remember this is 2013, not 1985. In 2013 we have to have teh feelz. No more Ahnold. They're getting us ready for the end of the world.

This gets my vote. Do the series over again with consistent writing and the best elements of all the games.

The series doesn't need to be rewritten,  I would rather them let Shepard and his crew retire and let us find a new protagonist to explore new sides to the ME universe with a new perspective set some time after the Reaper war.

This is why I favor complete AU.

Shepard?  Shepard who? And what's a "Reaper?

I'm getting the sense that the next mass effect will be an AU. Whether or not the species from the original trilogy will be in it or not remains to be seen, though part of me hopes so(ofcourse I did just start the first game 2.5 months ago and have since bought all 3. it would be difficult to say good bye to all the aliens I know and love after only getting acquainted with them for a couple months).

I just don't see how they will be able to do a sequel with the current endings of ME3, unless they canonize an ending.

I don't have all that many expectations of the next game since I don't know anything about it. Just keep in depth characters I can care about, keep it an RPG, and don't rehash the story of the original trilogy, don't have the main character be the savior of the galaxy again. (not my most intelligent or in depth post, haven't slept well, trouble with stringing my thoughts into complete and comprehensible sentences)

I would like to see if we could choose the species of the main character. LIke to be able to play as a turian or a krogan in the single player. That would be fun.

They do have that save file transfer technology that carried all of your decisions from one game to the next. They could probably do that with the next game just on a larger scale. It would be cool if you chose control or synthesis how the reapers fit into galactic society.

Honestly I don't get the concerns about effectively "canonising" elements of the previous games. I just want a sequel set 100+ years in the future with a good story, characters and sense of exploration. To this end BW should just select some core elements from the trilogy and adopt them for this game. For example, do they want the Krogan to have a significant presence in ME4? If yes, then make the game on the premise that the genophage was cured. Same with Geth/Quarian conflict, status of the reapers (which will hopefully be gone, whether destroyed or otherwise) and existence of the rachni.

I'm not worried if they choose premises that aren't consistent with my personal choices, since I don't see this as a continuation of the trilogy. That's done. New game, same universe, just make it interesting.

If they do go AU (and I relly hope they do) then I'm sure teh species will be around, just not the individuals we've met.

For example, there would still be asari just not Liara

Oh, nothing so fance. We'll just let Sovereign's tentacle smash Shepherd into a tiny smear, and then use another protagonist for the ME2 reboot.

Hmm, how about an AU where the Protheans are still top species and we humans are rebelling against them as a serf race? I can see that as a great possibility for a game. "Spartacus in Space".... Actually it is a serious suggestion.

That is a good idea too!

A butterfly effect - what if the Reapers got defeated by the Protheans with the Crucible and they continued to force everyone into submission from then onward, eventally humanity (and I'm pretty sure turians aswell) would defy the "generous" offer of the protheans.

Shepard would never get born, others from his team too. Different order of events on the same timescale, new protagonists take Sheps place and place of his team.

I want to see a Lex Luthor-like megalomaniac Control Shepard, hellbent on "saving" the galaxy in the most hilariously brutal and ironic way possible.

Obviously, it's our mission to take him out, along with the Super Friends. Just kidding about the Super Friends, but really, this possibility is the only saving grace for the Control option, and I'd like to see it.

Either that or the misadventures of a former human in a Husk body.

That sounds like a great basis for a game such as Mass Effect to be built upon.
