I envision Dragon Age vampires as being more like 30 Days of Night vamps. Bestial, ravenous and decidedly un-sexy.
Also, vampires, when they were first invisioned for stories, were never meant to be super wierd monsters that always stand out when you see them.

Oh, anything like that is out the window .
Not part of the lore.

DA doesn't need Vampires really, but I'm fine with them if done right. Dragon age takes classic monsters and adds its own twist to it, I mean the Desire Demons are basically just a DA version of a Succubus.

Hah, that's the point I was going to make. Blood Mages are Thedas's vampires.

Meh. People make similar comments all the time. Thedas' vampires are already named as hunger demons that possess corpses. This at least make sense. But blood mages are not undead monsters and they do not consume blood for sustenance, so no, they are not Thedas' vampires, no more so than a medic using leeches to bleed someone would be.

Blood mages are not vampires.
Demons are evil and can possess the living and the dead, but they're not vampires .
Blood mages aren't vampires .
They're blood mages by choice .
As it is Laidlaw is astute enough to know that and as someone else reported vampires are not part of the lore.
shrugs.

Don't the dead possessed by hunger demons turn into the typical zombie?

Lol. No. They were meant to mingle with humans and live in the shadows without being spotted as vampires.

Says who? Hollywood and the modern literary tradition perhaps, but not actual folklore about vampires.
