In Ostagar, my human noble usually can get 6 approval in the beginning conversation when you first meet nd you talk about the arguement with the mage, ask about grey wardens etc.
But in my Elf playthrough, he doesn't give any approval.What could be wrong? I don't think I have any mods that would conflict, its all armor mods and like lock bash.
Does Alistair's approval differ for each class?(spoiler)

Yes, it does differ a bit. With my female mages I can get as much as +7 in the first conversation depending on the responses. With the elves, you should still get some sort of approval gain with him, again, depending on the responses you pick.

Approval from dialogue, no matter from which companion, depends entirely on the responses you pick. If you always picked the exact same responses, you would get the exact same amount of approval.
