I was saying that it's damage output or lack thereof isn't the reason people hardly ever detonate, it's the bass-ackward mechanics of TA that are to blame for that.

The fact that bioware made it possible to detonate TA, but then designed it in such a manner that it's almost always an inferior option annoys me, hence the rant.

I think so, I've never tried to stagger a gold phantom with it, but it works against phantoms on silver at least.
The problem is that if I have the option to stagger a phantom at close range with tech armour, I also have the following options:

HuSent-> Radius specced throw to stagger, quicker cooldown, staggers just as well.
TurSent-> Overload to stagger, shield strips better, staggers just as well.
KroSent-> Pimp hand, dead phantom.
AssSent-> Warp to BE, dead phantom, or detonate AF if AoE needed to avoid dodging.
KroLord-> Hammer time, dead phantom.

And these options don't involve sacrificing the DR and stat bonuses from TA until the power cooldown is done.

It's not that detonating tech armour is bad per se, it's that it's rarely if ever a better option than just using a normal power, so I only use it for lulz.

If she's behind me, that means I didn't see her or hear her, and if she's close enough to hit with TA, she's close enough to sync-kill.
If you don't know she's there, you won't even have a chance to detonate the TA.

If TA detonations could interupt sync kills, I'd use them for more than S&G's, but they don't, so they offer no reliable protection against an phantom you didn't see, only preventing them getting behind you in the first place by paying attention can keep you safe.

Don't rely on them having to melee you first before they sync kill, as they cheat, especially off-host.(of course, they cheat in different ways on host too...)

It's better to pay attention to your surroundings, hunt phantoms down aggressively and kill them first, rather than to rely on a power that won't save you anyway.

And be sure to avoid running past blind corners without checking for phantoms hiding behind cover.

Cheer up: there aren't power combos in ME, and in ME2 they're restricted to Warp detonations.

Tech Armor does have a knockback effect in mp, and it hits enemies through cover/walls. I admit I detonate it mostly for the lulz in non-critical situations, though.

But 30% on AF's blast damage is pretty significant.  Been running an AF blast Valkyrie lately, and she's pretty sweet!

I settled for her because I was also wondering about whether the 30% power boost applies to Krodept's Barrier blast as well.
