Wasn't Chris Tucker's Ruby Rhod a transgender character in the 5th Element?
So sure. Why not in the next Mass Effect game.
Should the next ME game have transsexual characters?

It was never mentioned in the movie, so I assumed he was just an overly eccentric radio personality that's always "on". I guess it doesn't really make a difference to the stewardess he gets it on with on the space flight to Fhloston Paradise.

Why does it matter?
If they have something important to add to the story I see no reason why not.
HOWEVER I just know that such a character would be added for
-pandering to the SJWs
-controversy
So I see no reason to add one in

Since we still have issues getting gay characters written well (and not annoying stereotypes) in media I think we should avoid transexuality for the time being.

Inclusion/diversity for its own sake does not matter to videogames

A: Not generate much controversy because no one but the diehard fans read the comics
B: But still manage to give them good publicity to the tumblr slacktivists while avoiding the issue for the actual games.

Edit: I think Steve is a good example of not making a character "that gay character" who's there to be gay. His story is about loss and moving on, and it happens to be expressed through the loss of a husband. I was very happy for him by the end of the game.

A very poor excuse and you know it. They relegated the (non joke, non prostitute) transexual character to the comics because they know it would:

Only if they can do it in a way that doesn't seem like their character is just there to be transgender. That would be tough to pull off, I think, but I am fine with the idea in theory.
Look, my friend. We all know how this go from DA2.
The character's gender will depend on your PC's gender for maximum romance opportunity

By my condition above I'm fine with all the DA2 characters being player-sexual. They are all well-developed characters in their own right and don't depend on their sexuality to matter in the story.

IMHO the only truly well developed character is Varric, everyone else is either emo or an idiot.

End of Act 2 ringing any bells? Besides Isabela's sexuality is merely a vehicle for expressing her true issues, which are distrust of everyone, especially herself, and extremely low self-esteem covered by a loud and confident exterior.
I would actually argue that Isabela is the most well-developed character in DA2. Watch YT videos of her rivalry or even friendship arcs. It's really interesting and shows dynamic character growth.

Yes, it's always awful when a character arc ties into the main plot conflict, eh? Not even true for all characters, btw, as I will mention Isabela yet again.

Read the article and unfortunately, wasn't impressed. The same basic arguments that the author makes against concerning oneself with issues of diversity in gaming could be applied to any other aspect of gaming. Annoyed that ME3 privileged paragon players with a lot of its decisions, or seemingly disregarded major prior choices (the Rachni, Collector base, etc.)? Don't like autodialogue? Too bad, because it isn't the author's job to cater to your preferences; it's the author's job to make the work he or she most wants to make.
My question is, if we're not prepared to accept this response in the case of autodialogue, gameplay or poorly constructed choices, why should we be prepared to accept it with regard to the issue of represenation? Of course there's a sense in which game producers aren't obligated to do anything besides make the games they want to make, but I don't see why that should immunize them from criticism.
