When I try to launch Mass Effect on my computer, it doesn't launch.

Now normally I would go to the EA/Origin technical help site to figure this out, but I purchased ME1 and ME2 through Steam as a part of one of their sales. Everytime I click play, I'll get a spinning blue circle (just the basic Windows 7 spinning circle) and nothing will happen. So far I have verifeid the files cache and I have tried launching it in administrative mode. Any help here would be appriciated, as I am not sure the EA tech support will be able to help me.

I do not own ME1 on Steam but I never been able to start the game via the game launcher , I need to click on the ME1.exe.

Oh wait, now when I click on play after bringing up the launcher, the launcher just closes.

Okay, so I've found out that the game crashes, and after doing some troubleshooting, I found out that the game is an "incompatable application".

I use the MassEffect.exe , not MassEffectLauncher.exe , it's in the Binaries file but since you got it on Steam , you may not have the same files ...and it may not be a launcher problem.

Try looking at the link above , could be a problem with ME not patched correctly / DirectX 9/problem with 64bits system.

Had the same issue with my PC disk version. Never could get the damned thing to work for some reason, but from what I read that's a common issue with the PC port of ME1. One of the reasons I ended up getting a console, abandon all hope Hanar. :P

All right, cool. Figured it all out thanks to that thread. I needed a patch. Now the game runs. Thanks for your help. ^_^

EA support will help you regardless of where the product came from.  I had Bad Company 2 on Steam but EA support was more than happy to help me with a start-up issue I was having.
