I choose weapons based on the sounds they make.

So you just use the Collector SMG all the time?

Annomander, you know you only score headshots and use phasic ammo.  Don't give yourself away like that.:P

N7 Valiant for the win!

(...I still don't even have a Black Widow to compare to the Javelin somehow)

Most snipers are chickens who don't like to mess up their precious uniforms in any case. Hell biotics get their hands more dirty than snipers who typically hide behind Krogan asses.

Please mister tough guy, go melee that Banshee for me. Don't use inclines though, because you're too tough to need them.

I suck with both of them, so it's all the same to me.

If you guys ever run into fearitself on xbox, that guy knows how to put a bullet through some heads.  Never seen anyone snipe like him.  BW, Javelin, didn't matter.
Beerfish is just frothing because he is no good at sniping. ;)

And OT...Both are fantastic sniper weapons, the speed and ammo capacity of the BW makes it better, imho.  Maybe once the Javelin is maxed out for me I will like it better.  Right now I only get like 7 shots with it before I have to go find an ammo box.

But the Black Widow is boring. I'll stick with the Javelin.

Since after the introduction of Thermal Scope and Heavy Barrel, yeah. The Javelin has lost much of its uniqueness.

Which is why I modded the Javelin to have 12 meters of penetration.

The Black Widow is for people who can't aim. Javelin is where it's at if you can.

Aha!  Now they are all agreeing with me that the Krogan is the worst kit due to his attributes that contradict his style of play!

I love the Javelin, but it's rendered the other snipers much more difficult to use. Even if I haven't used it in a while, I find myself adjusting for the delay, which plays havoc with any attempts to use the others. I'm still at least average with the others, but I find myself missing far more often than when using the Javelin.

As to which one's better: this is just a typical subjective BS(N) argument. They're both far beyond sufficient for use on Plat/Gold even in the hands of a mediocre player, and ludicrously OP below that. Any distinction beyond that is just quibbling for its own sake, IMO (so BSNess as usual, I guess).

Honestly, I like the Javelin more than the Black Widow...
My Javelin toting GT is one of my fav chars (and no, I don't skip on Flamer)...
If that means I can't aim, then I guess I can't aim... :P

Indeed, I like the standard Widow more than the Black Widow: 9/10 times I end up reloading the BW after every shot anyway (damn you muscle memory), so I might as well use the normal Widow, at least I won't miss out on the damage...

Truly, the BW is probably one of the guns I handle the worst, never could get a handle on the "proper" way to use it... A real shame... :/

Black Widow is too boring for me. Also because I'm used to the one-shot-reload snipers, I tend to reload after every shot. I don't mind the heavy barrel because it just makes the Javelin that much easier to get multiple targets or hit points with one shot. I only use the BW on one character and that's the vanilla female infil.

In comparison to the Javelin the same argument used in BW vs. Jav can be recycled here. If you can use a Javelin you will outperform a Widow user with the obvious few exceptions. Add to the fact that the Javelin (and Kishock, Mantis, Indra, Incisor and Valient) are tenfold more fun and the Javelin sounds way cooler I see the Widow as terrible. It's largely due to personal preference than overall performance but it is the only sniper I will choose not to use in favour of others (apart the Raptor which I just avoid at all costs anyways)

Can't OHK Phantoms with their bubble shields up using the Black Widow when hosting.

Javelin fixes that.

A black widow can kill three mooks in roughly the same time that a reload-cancelled javelin needs to kill two mooks, but the reload-canceled javelin will take down bosses more quickly, especially if you get entry-exit wounds on them with AP.

The difficulty you play on will make a difference to which one performs better, as silvers larger number of mooks favors the BW, whilst platinums boss spam favours the javelin, and on gold they are both good options.

Kit choice can also make a difference, an MQI would likely prefer the javelin to wreck bosses, since his arc grenades already pwn mooks en masse, while a SI would likely prefer the BW since he can already wreak bosses with any sniper rifle because of the combination of TC and PM, but has less AoE effectiveness, so he benefits from the greater mook-killing effectiveness of the BW.

Different tools for different jobs, both are great at popping domes, but I prefer a long range weapon that can take an omni-blade .

Do you put drill ammo and both piercing mods on top of that?

No no no...

You use a javelin/BW on a krogan, in close quarters combat.

LuckyBullet95 knows whats up. The other sniper rifles listed are fun too but the Kishock is by far my favorite.

The standard widow on an infiltrator is kinda meh, it's true.

It's surprisingly fun on the VolAdept though, just use shield boost to reload cancel and enjoy the BOOM ch-ching sound.

Use stasis to deal with annoying phantoms, everything else gets an anti-material round in the daddy bags.

I think what you're saying is that you suck at headshoting and can't do it on the Javelin, so you resort to the Black Widow to hide your scrubbiness. Don't worry, no one can be good at everything. You've got nothing to be ashamed of.

I use the Black Widow because I CAN headshot. Maybe i'll show you later bronze scrub.

Widow on the phoenix adept.

Only tried it out due to the random kit generator last year sometime, but was surprisingly effective.
