I am not a huge fan of the Jav. While it is an amazing weapon and can dish out punishment with the best of them it has a delay to its firing that drives me nuts. When I pull my trigger I am expecting a round to come out and kill something. Not wait and hope I can stay on target.

1) the Javelin has enough penetration on his own with the mod, you don't need drill ammo most of the time. There's like one shot a wave that you can take with a BW but not with a Javelin. While there are at least 10 shots/wave that you can take with a Javelin but not with a BW.

2) you don't need to stay scoped. You can easily quickscope jsut as well with a Javelin than with a BW. It just requires different timing and different aiming. Which was what I hinted at in the last comment.

3) sniping on consoles is bad and everyone and his mother knows that. But I fail to see how it's worse with a Javelin than with a BW. If anything, it's better with a Javelin, since you have a slight split second delay when you quickscope to see if you actually scoped where you were aiming at, and if you did you keep the trigger pulled till the shot's off, or if you didn't, and then you stop firing and not waste a bullet.

That said, I'm obviously not experienced in sniping on console so I might be saying a lot of bull****

I really love the Javelin, but the Black Widow is better, at least on Gold. It is more forgiving if you miss a shot, you can afford to use something else than Phasic III on it. Also it benefits from RoF and stability on weapons classes. The Javelin comes really close to the awesomeness ot the BW though.

I really prefer the Wraith/Crusader over either of these two really. And in the small maps we have it doesn't really make a difference. I can't accommodate for moving enemies when scoped.

Phasic, Warp, AP, Drill and Disruptor ammo are all perfectly good choices for the Javelin, depending on the enemy and your kit/build.

I play U/U/G almost exclusively, so I'll have to go with the smallest common denominator, which is Phasic Rounds for the Javelin. With any other ammo type (except maybe disruptor IV) the Javelin looses the capabilty to oneshot shielded mooks, and if I need two shots for a mook, then I might just use the BW, which shoots much faster and has three shots.

used the BW on the GI for the first time last night.
don't like it BETTER than the Javelin, but it is amazing on that kit.

When you are not fully utilizing the Black Widow's ROF you're basically shooting things at the Javelin's ROF which makes the latter the better option b/c you deal more damage per shot (and don't have to hit stuff in the head for OHKs which means you can shoot at max ROF all the time as well).

The Black Widow cannot OHK most stuff when used on kits that lack moronic damage bonuses which makes the Javelin the better option b/c it can OHK nearly everything without those moronic bonuses.

The Javelin doesn't require the lolgeth scanner to be able to shoot stuff through walls and has much better wallhack range anyway, it also has better penetration.

The Black Widow can be slightly better for killing thrash mobs, but requires Tactical Cheat + Geth Scanner. In all other scenarios the Javelin reigns supreme. Unless you suck and cannot hit things with it of course.

Like Fortack said: you can't headshot at full BW RoF all game long. It's pretty much humanly impossible.

I concur.
It's more hilarious when ones aim wavers towards the nether regions of the enemy.
It may be childish but it sure as hell had to hurt.

I either just headshot them or ED them while shooting a non-shielded mook and ED them again before actually shooting them.

Any kit with ED or Overload can easily use Javelin without resorting to Phasic ammo.

Javelin is a Plat only gun, if you don't play Plat, you don't need Javelin. BW is better on Gold and lower.

For non-infiltrator classes, Arc Pistol is better than both.

Got to treat it like a bow, with very short drawback delay.

It feels weird using something like the BW or widow after getting used to that - it seems to respond too quickly.

Works only out of cloak. With Phasic ammo I can kill a mook without TC damage boost if I score a headshot. With TC I only need a bodyshot which is much quicker and easier to pull off in stressful situations..

If you are so good that you can score headshots everytime, then you're better off using the BW with Phasic ammo, because with that setup you can kill 3 mooks in about 4 seconds.

If you are using a shield stripping power like ED or Overload, then you don't need a ****ing Javelin to finish off the enemy. Also in this situation the BW is superior, because you're not wasting so much damage potential.

The Black Widow is the best sniper rifle. The combination of auto aim and quick scoping enables very easy headshots. On a good day, I can easily score consecutive headshots as fast as the weapon will allow. Even though it does more damage per shot, the Javelin's rate of fire is poor. The Black Widow does high damage and has a much better rate of fire, I always get 20 headshots with this weapon on every single game, whereas I hardly ever get more than 5 headshots with the Javelin.

Also, lol at people who hard scope with sniper rifles. You'll never get anywhere with that.

As long as you can quickscope, you should very easily be able to get 20 headshots in the first half of the game. So Black Widow wins, no contest.

Unless you had just 1 round left with no remaining thermal clip packs and you weren't near an ammo box. Only then is the Javelin better.
