Salutations dudes,

So I'm doing one of those super-ultra-gotta-collect-'em-all-uber-final-seriously-it's-the-last-one runs through the Mass Effect Trilogy and I've been away from the series for a little bit, especially the first game. I have a question about the cut-off point for doing side missions.

I know after you complete the fourth major world (Noveria in my case), returning to the Citadel results in a "plot-twist" and then when you leave for Ilos, you've hit the Point of No Return as far as doing sidequests.

My question is: are you automatically shunted to the Citadel after the fourth major world? Or are you still free to do side-missions after the fourth world before going to the Citadel? I know you can do missions after leaving the Citadel but before you go to Ilos, but I'm curious if you also can between the last major story mission and that last trip to the Citadel?

All helpful answers appreciated.

Once you complete the fourth story mission (Therum, Feros, Noveria, or Virmire), the next time you access the galaxy map, you are forced back to the Citadel.

So to make sure you complete all sidequests, it is best to complete them all before starting the fourth story mission.

For the most part, you can complete sidequests without returning to the Citadel, as most missions on uncharted worlds are self-contained and have no tie-in to the Citadel.

There are exceptions. For example, you need to return to the Citadel to inform Garroth that his brother is dead, so if you leave that one too late, you cannot return to the Citadel to complete it. Another example is the Thresher Maw on Edolus, where you have to speak to Kohaku, which will soon later unlock some Cerberus sidequests.

And if you have a Spacer background, Zabelata requires that you go to the Normandy to speak to your mother, then go back to talk to him. Also, Conrad Verner requires three conversations to complete.

You are a gentleman and a scholar, my friend. I have to plot out my gaming very carefully these days (2 month old baby) and I remember from previous playthroughs that doing Noveria last means there are 2 side missions that don't open up until the end game. But I was trying to figure out if I needed to schedule those missions for right after Noveria, or if I had to wait until after the Citadel part and do them on the way to Ilos.

Your information has provided me with the answer to this query and for this, you have my eternal, sleep-deprived gratitude.

Doesn't Kohaku call you while on the Normandy after dealing with the maw?  I don't remember having to go back to the Citadel to speak with him.  We also have to return to complete the quest given by Nassana Dantius.

You have to go back to inform Kohaku that his men are dead. Then the next time you access the galaxy map, he calls you with the location for Cerberus.
