I hear a lot of talk about siding with either the templars or the mages, and though I don't expect either to be a major factor in the game as a whole, I for one hope that we can potentially remain neutral (leave them to destroy each other) or at the very least, find equal footing like we did in ME3 for the Geth and Quarians.

I don't expect the issue to ever be resolved.

And since the entire crux of the conflict is that the Templars want to prevent the Mages from having an 'equal footing', I don't see how such a thing can ever be found.

My Hawke tried so hard to do that in DA2. Poor bastard.

As did mine, which bothered me so much when I couldn't just walk away after (or before getting involved at all) I sided with the mages and Orsino just basically disproved everything he was fighting for, by turning into a monster.

So mages are allowed to fight against oppression, but only in a nice and polite way, whatever that entails?

No. It's just here I am trying to prove that Mages aren't all evil blood mages, and then what does he do? Becomes a blood mage and sucks up all of the bodies on the floor to become more powerful.

Hell, we didn't even need him to do that. My party was so strong, they could have stayed in the back and been absolutely fine!

If your party was so strong, then why are there corpses for him to absorb at all? Obviously the narrative itself does not agree with your assessment of the situation.

I don't criticise anyone for resorting to desperate measures when their life and freedom are at stake, which is clearly the case for Orsino and mages at large.

Because I didn't care to get there fast enough. I thought they were both stupid to be fighting at all and wanted to just walk away and return to Fereldan.

Regardless of how you feel, the fact is we should be able to find some other way, even if it really is just walking out and saying, "**** it. You're on your own."

Most likely Bioware will not repeat DA2's mistakes and not resort to "Because the Plot Says So".

I don't agree in the slightest. Allowing players to abstain from 'difficult' choices entirely defeats the purpose of having difficult choices in the first place.

Besides which, there is no such thing as 'neutrality' in the face of blatant oppression. In the act of ignoring it, you support it by allowing it to perpetuate.

This is an article I recommend people read with an open mind and at least take it for what its worth, and then look at the similarities the author uses in providing her own back story growing up in such a fashion.

I don't ask that anyone take it as gospel truth in the Dragon Age universe, but simply take it into consideration as it does make a great deal of sense.

PS: Can anyone explain how I can create a link to the site without the website, say "Go here" is the link itself.

Ahhh whats not to like?

I'm sarcastic, blunt, honest, and other lovely things.

Its amusing to me that someone who hold such beliefs as me is so much better well recieved on BSN than a champion of justice and righteousness and migraine induction

I have no problem with any of those qualities. It's your reprehensible moral stance that makes me physically ill.

And I think that you are a little too self inserting and blinded by it.

Mages are dangerous and different.  Do they need some greater freedom?  That can be accomodated, but letting them run unsupervised across the world to get posessed by demons and then kill people willy nilly?

I don't see that as a desirable outcome.

In other words Lawful Evil on this matter, I'm willing to guess you see Anders as Chaotic Good and probably follow in the same vein.

Mages can't have equal footing by default. They'll either be opressed or opress.

I'm a little sympathetic to Tevinter to be honest.

I'm a sucker for Rome analogues

It's funny cause they both more or less destroyed themselves.
But I suppose it's fine when mages do the opressing.

Here we go again blaming it all on Daddy Issue's.
Mage's are not rebellious children.
