Gold is boring because it is too easy.

Platinum is not hard is just a mess, predictable and limited playstyle variable.

You know what would make platinum easy mode?

Pools of Phazon to activate Hyper Mode. :wizard:

I like platinum more when CrashUrStox is carrying me :) I really find gold so boring sometimes and it's much more fun to try weird loadouts on platinum.

Platinum is just boring for me and the boss spam is rather lame. Gold is a bit more lore friendly for me and has a good mix of mooks/bosses. Nevertheless this game is laughably easy on any difficulty.

TMB...nevermind.

I play with a lot of really good players so gold is actually really boring to me these days.

Then you need more scrubs in your life! Or... yknow, at least one.

Let me know when you get to ME3 ;)

Because platinum is a poorly designed mess that pretty much makes all factions identical, thus removing variety, while also making anything that isn't mad deepees pretty much worthless, encouraging you to stay away from suboptimal setups, reducing variety even further.

Platinum only has regular unshielded mooks on wave 1 and then it's all elites and bosses, making things like crowd control utterly useless, blegh.

Worse, it's not even really harder than gold, so as far as actually challenging the players who found gold too easy, it's a big fail too.

The game isn't hard on gold nor platinum, but at least on gold it can be fun.

I'm sorry but this is just not true. To say that Plat is not much harder than Gold is simply not true at all. I don't know how anyone could entertain that idea.  While DPS is important on Plat, it really depends on the skill of your team. With a good team you can get away with some classes that most would not consider Plat worthy.   In truth, I wish Plat was as easy as some are making it out to be, if it were than more than a whopping 3% of ME players would play Plat.

Of those 3% many are glitchers or noobs biting off more than they can chew.  Gold is more relaxed etc but that is also part of the problem. Those with good weapons will just blaze through it, rocket spawns etc and yet are quick to post their little pics and bragging topics on sites like BSN or Gfaqs.  If you really are an elite player, then get your butt into Plat, at least that way finding decent pug Plats would not take as long as it can at times.

I really just don't see how those of us with max or near max manifests can get much enjoyment out of Gold, you just feel so powerful. Its like bringing a Reegar X to a Bronze game.

Ok...

Gold game with friends ends up being a roflstomp.

Platinum game with friends ends up being a roflstomp too.

Do you want me to say otherwise just because this doesn't apply to you apparently?

Yes, platinum IS somewhat harder than gold and when pugging the difference becomes more pronounced, but for me (and many others) when playing with competent players, the difference in difficulty isn't big at all, and when using top tier kits and weapons, it's practially the same damn thing.

If you really are an elite player, then get your butt into Plat, at least that way finding decent pug Plats would not take as long as it can at times.

I'll keep my butt wherever the hell I want to keep it, kthxbai.

gold is relaxing enough in most pugs unless it's horribly laggy. But I play plat with friends because there isn't enough stuff to kill in a normal gold game

Whether pugging or not, roflstomp or no, Plat is still harder than Gold. How hard one considers it to be is irrelevant, Plat is the harder difficulty. Higher spawn pool totals, high enemy health and armor, higher enemy damage.

Don't go flattering yourself, I was speaking more to the community in general with that statement, not you.  That being said, maybe those elite players aren't as elite as they think...

Sounds like a pretty lame roflstomp if one is harder than the other.

How difficult someone considers each game to be is irrelevant, more work is still being done to kill those enemies on Plat, the obvious exception to this rule being missile glitching.

Ah, so you're going by the amount of effort required, rather than how challenging the setting is.

I will agree that Platinum requires more effort than Gold, but add that the amount of extra effort is not much (unless you are actively handicapping yourself)

Bottom line:

Platinum is not much harder than gold. The only differences being that you must be prepared for all enemy factions, you can't just focus on that Phantom because there is a Banshee bearing down on you.

Bottom line:

Arguing that "elite" players should only play platinum is a losing battle and you should be eaten for even suggesting it.

Bottom line:

Gold is more fun than platinum because there are enough mooks to keep the kill feed going consistently and it's less easy for that last minute idiot Vorcha to throw on flamer and kill something if it's already dead. Kill stealing does not exist, but no one likes to whittle an enemy down to one bar of health only to have someone else come along and kill it.

One reason I prefer gold is because I like to fight groups of mixed mooks and bosses.

This is actually the reason why my favourite setup is Cerberus Platinum.

Partially this for me...

But mostly ... Some bosses are fun ... too many bosses just isn't fun. It needs more of a balance.

Also: Elite, pro ... whatever ... all douche bags unless you're actually making a living of the game. I doub't any me3 player is.

Personally I find Platinum more fun, no contest, especially because I always PUG so one never knows how engagingly intense and random each game might get. Golds often end up quite boring and cheesy (because of X weapons) and the pay is comparatively awful for the time spent, the only redeeming factor I find about Gold is that because it's much easier it's much more playable and tolerant towards a wider range of builds and playing styles, especially against the unfairness of lag and WAT game bugs.

Platinum is much much more challenging, harder due to sheer weight of sync kill bosses delivering masses more stun and physical damage, and they're much harder to kill/stagger/stop before they're within sync range or you're flanked by everything else. For example on Gold a pure charge-melee Kroguard on Gold can take down 2 Primes single-handedly without any weapon, gear, or equipment and he won't even lose any shields - it's a no risk situation. 2 Primes on Platinum is very different - even with a Cyclonic IV the risk of stun->health damage->death is greatly increased, forcing the overpowered reckless builds (e.g. Kro/Batguards, AIUs, TGI, flamer and snap-freeze builds) to play much better.

After reading through this thread I have learned that people find different things fun for different reasons.
But that's clearly not how it's supposed to be, because it seems people also want other people to have fun for the same  reasons as they do.

I prefer Gold largely for four reasons:

1. I really love killing mooks. Bosses are fun, too, but for some reason mook-slaying just makes me smile, and there's not a lot of mooks on Platinum.

2. I feel more comfortable over a larger variety of kits on Gold. When playing Platinum, I feel limited in kit and gun selection because I am just simply not good enough to rock something hipster. Not with any confidence, at least.

3. Gold allows me to chill more with my friends. We can ROFLstomp Gold together and just have random conversations or jokes, which is awesome. On Platinum, it takes a little more concentration, seems like, so there's less gum-flapping and more silent, grim death-dealing. If I'm in the mood to be quiet and go into full-throttle kill-zone, I'd go PUG.

4. Gold is a level where I feel 98% certain I can clutch/carry if needed in the case of a) all buddies got sync-killed or B) PUGing. Whereas I've clutched some Platinum waves before, it's a LOT harder for me and I don't have as much confidence that I could pull the team through to extraction. Whereas I can on Gold, so I stay where I am most comfortable and assured I can rescue the team's efforts if need be.

Platinum is like fighting Geth. It gives the player two choices only: Take kits that trivialize everything or something else and get trolled all the time.

Platinum breaks immersion (you'll face the same enemies fighting all factions) and variety (an awful lot of stuff that works perfectly fine on gold turns into crap when you go Platinum).

Boss-mode is neither fun nor challenging.

plat is more fun because it's more challenging. gold is a walk in the park.

Then again, I play without friends 90% or more of the time so I prefer pugging it in platinum and with no headset (although I sometimes plug it in once the match starts to see who's talking) and see if i can carry the team to victory.

On a personal level it is; generally speaking not so much.
