The thing is we have completely broken the game to the point where a team with armored compartments can make it through platinum without ever giving the enemy a chance to fight back. Outside of that there are dozens of ways to make the game completely trivial if you want to. The only to way to add challenge into the mix is to reduce the number of players, play with bad pugs, or use less than optimal loadouts.
Platinum isn't really much harder than gold. The AI is exactly the same. It just comes down to how hard you decide to make it.
And who is up for farming with me tonight on D3 as a completely other topic? I have figured out how to break that game as well now thanks to the glorious goodies friends have given me.

I don't get why the pro-plat crowd won't admit that all it takes to crush Plat is a powerful weapon and the ability to aim it accurately out of right hand advantage. They're fooling themselves if they think it's way harder than Gold... in reality it's only just a little bit harder.
You can argue that Gold actually is harder than Platinum when factoring in playstyle. Going rambo on Gold, using a stupid build with a crappy gun, and meleeing all things is a lot harder than standing (safely) behind a wall gunning everything down from a distance on Platinum.
Also true... But you won't get the pro plat crowd to acknowledge that bc using melee and crap guns isn't 'optimal'.. therefore they can't even fathom doing it.. even if it is quite a bit more challenging than standing behind a right hand advantage corner, shooting their chosen Winfiltrator weapon and/or spamming grenades.
Gold with a melee Human Adept using a Disciple w/ Omniblade AND actually going for melee kills/playstyle IS more difficult than playing Plat with... Let's say... A Salarian Infiltrator with a Black Widow, or a TGI Harrier. It also takes more finesse bc you need to excercise great crowd control to close the gap for Human Adept melee so you don't get downed. Yet... Somehow... Spamming Flamer and shooting a Acolyte/Hurrdurrcane with a lolGeth Trooper somehow takes 'mad MLG 1337 skillz'.
I don't get it... If plat players want a 'challenge'... Simply stop equipping top tier kits/weapons/builds, and FFS stop using cheese as your answer to a deficient kit. You will get much more challenge and overall mileage out of the game.
I'm not trying to tell folks how to play the game either, I'm suggesting viable alternatives towards the hunt for 'challenge' other than playing boss spam. Late waves in Cerberus Gold with a melee kit takes much more moxy IMO, dancing in close quarters with 3 Phantoms and a Goon, crowd controlling them with a Falcon/Disciple while smashing their faces... Or you can hide behind a corner and shoot your Harrier.
Not all of us use OP kits on Platinum. I can comfortably take any kit and do well without the cheese.
Of course you can... So can I... But then you and I both are going to take a weapon to make up for the kits DPS deficiency, thus reducing variety in build/kit/weapon selection.
Are you going take a Volus Vanguard into Plat with a Tempest/Falcon/Carnifex/Disciple melee setup, or are you going to take a Wraith/Reegar/Hurricane/Talon/etc.?
Spitfire or GTFO!
Seriously though of course not. I just enjoy the challenge Platinum brings I guess. I know its not the best designed, but I enjoy facing all the factions. It presents a challenge and keeps you on your toes, unlike gold. Although wave 10 and 11 of Cerberus Gold is a bi*ch.

Blackthorn's spurswith high dexterity, Zunimassa's mask with decent stats.
Figured out a way to hit 1.2 million DPS for a short period.

Oh noez, you've hurted mah feelz.
Besides, it's arrogant and dumb as hell to tell others what difficulty setting they should be playing on, nvmd the stupidity of that "elite" comment.
If you like platinum that's great, keep at it. This thread was asking people why they found gold more fun than platinum, hence people gave their reasons.

Hell most casual Gold players do all they can to avoid Collectors much less want to tackle Plat games. How can Gold be far more relaxed as so many have said, yet just as challenging? Total contradiction.

what's the point of playing that game at all if you decide to dupe/accpeting top tier Legendary/set pieces from friends?

If Gold was really equally challenging as Plat, more than 3% of players would play it. Why would someone play an equally challenging difficulty for less credits? Actions speak louder than words, if Plat is so easy it would have more players, period. Its easy to talk a good game, especially while playing a difficulty where one can play like a buffoon and still do just fine.

Gold can be as challenging as Plat if you spec and equip your character to make it so... Plus you will gain more kit/build/weapon variety in the process, which will allow you to get greater longevity out of the game, since you aren't sticking to the same stuff regularly. Credits don't matter bc my manifest (and 90% of my ME3 friends manifests) have been maxed since forever ago.
I acknowledge that Plat is much harder for people without a maxed manifest, which is probably why many don't play it.

It's the same in principle. Just more bullets per enemy and different wave compostions.ManRightChea wrote...

zero. that was kinda the reason I went back to ME3 in the first place. Cuz somehow, ME3 acutally has more variablity and playability than D3 for me.
Maybe things will be different once I can run CM on my wizard and farm m5 non stop, but even the videos of people farming m5 are not that much fun....if I can't get better gears than the ones I have now.

I like Diablo especially playing with friends but I can definitely see it isn't going to have the lasting power of ME3 for me. It wouldn't have mattered though about the weapons, etc. RNG gets tiresome fast if the game isn't pretty attractive in and of itself.wngmv wrote...

Killing speed is what makes the difference. When you no longer can kill - at least half of all the enemies - in a reasonably short time things go bad quickly.
Unit composition is why Gold is more fun - and presents more (challenging) options - than Platinum. Powers and melee are great tools to handle trash mobs effectively (and are an indispensable part of what makes this game fun for me) > Platinum has too many units that are immune to CC effects and laugh at most kits who try to kill them using melee > that severely cripples anyone who tries to focus on those aspects of the game > feeling crippled usually isn't considered fun > hence why many people prefer Gold.

Because myself and my friends (who I love) all get better at the same time. I enjoy the Borg mindset in Diablo... I do however acknowledge that this will reduce the replayability of the game... And it reduces the odds of finding worthy items on loot runs... But if one person finds one better item, we all get it, so it evens out.

Pretty much. It's about getting every once of DPS out of every kit. Everything is still viable but if you run a suboptimal setup you're going to lag behind on the scoreboard or get killed.Fortack wrote...
