Well I am uncertain of Antivan people are "white" or not. I was only thinking of Zevran, who was clearly meant to be Spanish/Latino. His mother was from a Dalish tribe, which probably originated outside Antiva so that may explain it. (though I changed his blonde hair to black, because that just looked weird.)

Yeah the Eclipse engine was garbage and darker skintones always turned red.

I assume Frostbite 3 can handle it. A bunch of the dudes in BF are black and other stuff.

That is an NPC from the Mark of the Assassin DLC. He is Duke Prosper's Chasind bodyguard, Cahir.

To me, Vivienne looks black and could be the first black character in a DA game.

No. Isabela was black according to Gaider.

No Isabella was revaini like duncan

Gaider said she was black.

But the DA2 engine couldn't render dark skin colours well, so she didn't look particularly dark, and the specifics of her facial features were determined by the art team, not the writing team.

Also, "black" and "white" are not well defined terms.

Black, white, and everything in between, I'm sure we'll see all sorts of skin tones in DA:I.

Unless they....aren't white.

Spanish means they were born in Spain. Their skin color can be any shade from palest white to darkest black.
That's kind of like saying Americans consider themselves white.......

I just remembered this concept art by Matt Rhodes:
Posted Image

The woman holding the flag is supposed to be the Inquisitor. And I think Gaider mentioned she was one of his favourite Inquisitor concepts.

This isn't a guarantee of anything, but at least there seems to be an intention by some of the devs to include this.

But that's not what we were talking about.

I could also say that those who consider themselves the "spanishest" won't consider a person who is black, or Jewish or Vasque ... Spanish. But that is going too much into politics for this forums.

This should be a given.

But does it actually matter?

Indeed. But people tend to associate them in a particular way, for different reasons... extremely in some cases. And that is what we were talking about.

Nope.

However, it would add to my game experience if there was a black man that displayed extremely high levels of class such as Salladhor Saan in GoT.B)

Europe, Asia and Africa aren't concepts in Dragon Age.

Well most of it is based on Europe... so therefore we're not allowed to have non white characters? Well, what about Rivaini and Antivan people? Granted, they all still just look like chocolate white people... but nonetheless...

It's much the same reason Tolkien had no African-American characters outlined in his books; no Africa = no African-Americans. It's not racism, it's just the area where biological blacks come from doesn't exist in their fantasy worlds, and doesn't have to. It's not racism or bigotry.

Plus, if you think Antivans and Rivaini are just "chocolate white people", isn't that basically what any race is? Are whites just powdery black people? Are Latinos just syruped Asian people? Are Native Americans just sun-bleached Inuit people? Your comparison is just comical.

Well, the same could apply to Thedas, providing a basis for the existance of a wide spectrum of skin tones among NPC's.
