Nicely done! Sort of reminds me of Sten, but I suppose that's what you were going for... Yes?

That is an NPC from the Mark of the Assassin DLC. He is Duke Prosper's Chasind bodyguard, Cahir.

Ah! Okay! Thanks for the dose of clarity.

To me, Vivienne looks black and could be the first black character in a DA game.

No. Isabela was black according to Gaider.

Vivienne is black and this white man likes what he sees :D

Oh and Isabela is nowhere near black. I disagree with Mr. Gaider if he said that, if she was suppose to be black then the character designers failed poorly.  I would classify her as looking more latiano than black.

Duncan looks latiano at as well.

It's all good. I like Isabela, I think she looks black, or at least mixed with it. If you put a piercing and a scarf on Beyonce I think she could be a very real looking Isabela.

Don't you think?

At best Isabela could be biracial.

But saying Dragon Age had black characters and using her as an example is a bit disingenous. She is far too European-looking.

Im not saying it, the lead writer is. And what's disingenuous is the fact that you think your some kind of encyclopedia on what black people look like, Black people (In America at least) look all kinds of different, you can't just generalize them with a set of features. What does a stereotypical white person look like?

You need to reevaluate the average white male if you seriously think that ON AVERAGE we have builds like my avatar.
Or Gold Flowing Hair and Square Jaws. Your average White Adult male looks more like Gaider, Laidlaw, and Darrah.

As much as I like to make parallels between fantasy worlds and reality, it doesn't have to work that way.

The races in the world of Dragon Age don't have to be a reflection of the real world. That means that features we associate with black or white people can be combined differently. Maybe they can be black and redheaded, maybe some chasinds are black and some aren't. Maybe some chasinds were from somewhere else before living in the Ferelden Valley and they mixed with other whiter people.

This is all speculation ofc, anything is possible. I'm not trying to say that the Chasind are black, just that they, or at least some, could be. Maybe it'll turn out that the people from the western half of Orlais are black and there is several ways it could be written so it makes sense, if the devs want to have more black people in DA.

If they really wanted to they could do whatever they want.  I've yet to see a black Chasind though.  Even Cahir just looks like a white man with a tan.

Yes it does in this context, If we are going to stereotype a racial group, That means most White Guys look like my Avatar according to you.

Only because you deem it so.
Now if all white guys looked like my avatar, the world would be a much more fabulous place.

Sure could. None of my characters were white. The one elf I played and all of the humans were dark-skinned women (in spite of the smudged look their skin had due to the engine). Dunno if you can technically call an elf "black" since it's a different species.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that while the people of Rivain may be dark skinned, to call them "black" would be a misnomer. They resemble dark-skinned Indians (from the subcontinent, not Americas) more than Africans, because they definitely do have a more "caucasian" facial structure.

Rivain was colonized by people from a non-Thedosian region, the Donarks. If we're assigning them any kind of geographical analogue they would be Malta, which speaks a language derived from Arabic.

I personally consider Italians to be Mediterranean cause...why the heck not? Making it just a sub racial category is boring.

How many more times does this thread need to crop up ffs?

-ahem-

Previous engine did not handle black people well. Frostbite does not have this limitation. Thedas does have black people. They're called Rivaini. Thedas also has Hispanic people. They are from Antiva. No word yet on Asian people.

There. We done yet?

Going to make a black gay Qunari mage. To be hated universally in game and in real life. Might send screen caps to fox news of murder knife, fireballs and gay loving to be the poster child for the fear/hate mongering ratings machine.

I wouldn't say the Antivans are "Hispanic". They have a similar skin tone to the Tevinters, and they're probably southern Mediterranean, similar to the skin tones of many Greeks, southern Italians and, yes, Spaniards (but not hispanics- "hispanic" being more of a linguistic group than anything else).

-shrug- If you say so. Point is that they're there.
