before this thread makes me develop a heart condition i am just going to pop in and say the engines were really crap for darker skintones in the past two games but i used mods for them anyways because the engine can bite my ass i dont care

h o w e v e r it looks like frostbite won't have this issue which sounds great for me because getting my hawke to look legit like a person of color rather than just a tanned white dude was tedious to say the least

I can say default female Hawke is pan Asian, mix Chinese, look like Bruce Lee sister if he have any, or female version of Bruce Lee

Considering the amount of effort put into the Dragon Age universe, the most I care about when it comes to racial features is that they make sense. A group of barbarians (such as the Chasind) that are more closed off should be less ethnically diverse than a hub of civilization. Some areas might just be like our Caribbean and have been more likely to have people of dubious race (Rivain has given off that impression for me) due to the oddities of how people arrived.

Though I find the idea of sticking to just the standard way people trend in our world to be unnecessarily limiting. Dark skin, red hair, and thin green eyes could totally be a way to describe the native humans of some region despite how odd such a person would be on Earth.

I'd also like to see skin, hair, and eyes vary in unusual ways among the other races. Maybe red-skinned Qunari, green-haired Dalish, etc... The more plausible avenues for ethnic diversity, the better.

What I don't want to see is ethnic diversity shoehorned in in a way that doesn't fit. It's silly when the one black guy in town married the one black woman in town so that they and their children can look like the affirmative action family instead of something more organic.

I tried in Origins and felt awkward being the adopted dark skinned Couslon lol but it worked out slightly better in DA2 but Frostbite 3 is looking good so far and judging from Vivienne we may see a more culturally diverse Thessaly but in the end we'll all have to just wait and see

But if Bioware releases a demo or trailer for the character creator like ESO then all the better

Well, your gf is white whether she thinks she is or not. Italians are in fact, white people.

You do realize this is a modern perception, right?  It's a sociological concept that changes over time, it isn't some immutable fact you can declare; more than a few groups considered white today were NOT thought of as white just a few generations ago, and Italians were one of them.  Hence the reason that some Italians even today would not think of themselves as white.

I don’t see anything wrong with having options to create an Asian person or a Black person if the tools allow this.

If a gamer wishes to play the game as an Asian that is up to them.
If a gamer wishes to play the game as a Black person that is up to them.
If a gamer wishes to play the game with no armour that is up to them.

Let people play what they like.

And marioflag is half-right in that the original name for Antiva was Calabria. But only because we liked the sound of it. If there are any further similarities between the real Calabria and the Antiva that we have now it's purely coincidental.

Also, I'm italian and I don't think there differences between italians and white people in general

This Thread is exactly why the minorities consider most of us racist.
I've seen people actually posting in here making argument's on why character's cant be black, dont belong because "this isn't based of Africa" (like everyone who is black is from there), and character's who Bioware themselves confirmed are Black be denied their "blackness" because they don't fit someone's narrow minded perception of what black people look or act like. Other ethnicities included. And personally I feel Prejudice is something that is setting the Human race back as a whole. Im ashamed, and I completely understand why threads like this made my wife leave the BSN.

Thank God for developers like Bioware who are making concerted efforts to include people who like some of my family members and future children.

Even if the chasind's features originally adapted to a warmer enviroment they could have migrated or the weather could have changed drastically since then.

The Chasind originate in the Ferelden valley until the Tevinters drove them further south, it makes about as much sense for them to be black as it does for scots to be black.  The lack of sun makes it a disadvantage.

in any case, Cahir doesn't even look black and we've seen other Chasind in Lothering more obviously pale and possessing red hair in at least one case.

I know quite a few black Scott's, I've seen black people playing football for Sweden and Norway. The world is smaller and far more multicultural than it was even fifty years ago.  Why does a game based in a fantasy world have to follow racial stereotyping? Just because the majority of Chasind are white does not mean that they all have to be.

As a portuguese man with some italian blood, I can tell you that we definitively consider ourselves to be white.
A great number of iberian children are born with blonde hair, BTW. It just darkens over time due to climate.
Such was the case with me; altough many retain a golden hair tone; but I still have very fair skin with some pink tones due to blood vessels as well as a full blonde beard. The olive skin tone plus black hair is not universal, you know; and those with those characteristics are still white.
