RROD Warranty lasts 3 years. It's a special program. Call their number and tell them you have RROD.

They'll email you a shipping Label. All you'll have to pay is $8 shipping.

It takes about 2 weeks for me to come back, and they'll give you a free month of Xbox Live.

I just wanted to say, I did not have to pay shipping.  This was in January 08, and I did live, literally, 15 miles from the repair center, so that might have made a difference.  But I just did everything through the Xbox website, and they shipped me a box, packing material, and a shipping label.  Sent it off and got it back within a week.  They actually made the repairs and shipped it back out the day they got it, according to the service updates.

I also definitely got my unit back.  Also, by about a week, mine was technically past 3 years since I had bought it.  I was rather worried that they would not do the repairs, but when I plugged the info into the website, it came up as eligible for RRoD repairs.  Overall, the whole process was easy and fast.  I was quite impressed, given all the hate I had seen on MS regarding the issue.

You should surf over to the support site on xbox.com, enter your xbox's serial number (it's on the console) and see if it's still covered by the extended warranty. If they do repair it, your warranty for RROD's is extended for another year. I think you also get a general 90 day warranty, in case something is messed up with the fixed/replacement Xbox.

I got a red ring a few days ago. Yesterday, I unhooked the cables and reconnected them, and it worked perfectly. So I was wondering if I've solved the problem, or I've just been given a stay of execution and need to find a new console.

Yeah, RRoD will be fixed by them, but shipping is slow on UPS's part. Took 2-3 weeks for the Xbox to get back after it got repaired. Damn you Garrus and your dialogue for red ringing my Xbox.

Unhooking the cables and reconnecting them can't cure the RRoD. It'll likely happen again, eventually. Just ride it out until then. Also - dude, why bump a 7 month old thread on a Mass Effect forum to ask a general Xbox tech support question like that? I mean, whatever, your choice, it's just gotta be the most random place to look for help =P

"Hmm... create a thread on some kind of Xbox support forum? Or resurrect some dead thread on some random game forum? Choices, choices..."

My Xbox survived Garrus and his dialogue, unfortunately one particular portion of Horizon on Insanity was too much for the old girl. Why BioWare? Why put melee enemies who rush you into a shooter game that relies entirely on cover? It's like putting traffic lights in a racing game, it's such a logical fallacy that on Insanity my Xbox just couldn't keep up.

However, rather than taking 2-3 weeks, my Xbox took 5 working days to make the trip from my front door, to Germany, and back again. Couldn't have been happier, both with UPS and Microsoft. Guess it's luck of the draw.
