After playing DAO and DA2, I was not prepared for the horrible controls of Mass Effect 2.  Firstly the fov is so small, most of what you can see are the back of your own head, and your gun, secondly, it is like you are moving on ice, slipping and sliding all over the place.

It has really put a dampener on the game for me.  Don't really know if I want to carry on playing.  Bioware should have been capable of a half decent control system, this is terrible.

It does take some getting used to, but the story is worth it. And when you do get used to it, you will wonder why you complained in the first place.

That's what I thought, but after playing through a few missions it seems to only be getting worse. Also my mouse is on the lowest setting, but I only have to touch it and my view fly's all over the place.

I can't begin to imagine what the hell they made these controls for. They are the worst I have ever come across, and I have come across some bad one's.

Hmm. I thought the controls were pretty good, but I play on a console. Sounds like your sensitivity may be too high. (game setting, not mouse setting.)

I think the problems are with the PC version. My mouse is set to lowest within the game, but is still way to fast. I am having a lot of problems, and I have not even mentioned becoming stuck on walls yet. :)

Horrible, really horrible.

Did you try the options menu for sensitivity? (Does the PC have this option?)

You're playing on PC?

I play on Consoles for two reasons:
1. My PC is horrible
2. I prefer controllers vs keyboard-mouse

But use whatever you think is best.

Anyway, what I'm asking is, do you play all your games on PC? For people who play console a lot, the PC controls can have a huge learning curve.

Yes, although it is called "Camera Sensitivity" in the options.

The game came out several years ago and the port assumes you have a lower DPI mouse than you are probably trying to use.  The old mouse I had in 2010 was just about right in ME2, but my newer one has to have the game set to low (also have sensitivity turned down a little in Windows) and I can switch its DPI on the fly so it isn't as big an issue.

Anyway, the in game option doesn't always make a huge difference, so you may want to do a little editing with notepad++ to really dial it in to your liking.  Take a look at these:

Fix / Tweak Guide to PC Issues

ME2: How do I fix Mouse Acceleration

In total you want to make several edits

1. MouseSensitivity to something lower, maybe even between 0.1 and 0.2
2. Disable mouse damping
3. Disable mouse smoothing
4. Change "AccumulationDivisor" to something like 600.0f to make dialogue wheels more normal
5. Might need to disable vsync

Oh, that sound interesting. Time for a little editing I think. :)

If I can get around the horrible controls, I might then be able to enjoy the game.

Thank you.

Update: Yep, that did it. I turned my mouse down to 0.4 and mouse is now working lovely. From the info on that page I also turned of my depth of field, and now all of those horrible shadows are gone.

The game is now playable. Thank you again. :D
