Also Superman story arcs =/= the X-men arcs

I find either Superman or X-men's universe to be dreary. Don't particularly care for either but I actually liked First Class as a film, so as a fan of film and someone who's liked a few of Singer's previous movies I'm gonna do the courtesy of actually watching this one. At the very least, Kevin Spacey's acting as Lex was good in Returns. So, I suppose you can always replace Superman Returns with Last Stand or X-Men Origins: Wolverine if we are gonna stay within certain frames and points of references.

A clip of the film serves as the post-credits scene for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Love the X-Men as comics and as films, but this is following almost my least favorite storyline; worst are the settings in space for me. Will have to read reviews and get some fan feedback before watching this one in the Marvel series

Lemme take a wild guess; you guys are all under 22 years old.
What does that have to do with anything?

I asked that because perhaps an elder statesman like myself might have more appreciation for one of the great comic story arcs of all time. The DOFP comics came out in the distant 1980s ... A dark time, before the "Hipster Empire"
I was around then and enjoyed that comic arc too. The clip of the film after The Amazing Spiderman 2 is quite cool as well...

Oh. I have to agree with others that thought the actual comic arc - the two series one back when Kitty Pride was "Sprite" - wasn't that great. I think the concept is brilliant - about what people in the future and willing to sacrifice to save themselves, their people and to prevent a nuclear holocaust - but the actual execution in the present I thought was pretty underwhelming. I expected something a lot more epic.

What a sad waste this film will be if it ends up squandering all that acting talent... ![]()

One episode of the 1990's X-Men animated series featured a scene of Magneto fighting a Sentinel. Now normally Magneto would make quick work of Sentinels given their metallic composition, but this one was made of plastic. Dun dun dun! So after taking quite the walloping, Magneto makes his way to an old shipyard. He comes across an old derelict battleship (maybe a freighter, I dunno, pretty big). And just when you think he might be in for it, he rips all the metal bolts out of the ship and riddles the Sentinel into pieces. I wonder if they'll have anything like that in this movie.
OT: Also wonder if Nimrod (uber Sentinel from the future) will make an appearance. He should. It's kind of an important part of the Bishop story.

^ There are likely tons of these story lines in the 2nd half of the film

I wonder if the Sentinels will be like the ones from the 90s cartoon, that Cyclops could take out with one blast, and are generally pretty crummy.
Or more like the ONE from X-men Evolution that took on both the X-men and the Brotherhood of Mutants at the same time and pretty much kicked their asses.
No seriously, when I think of a Genocidal War Mech, this comes to mind.
(If you're wondering where Wolverine is...who do you think Trask tested it on first?)

Honestly, up until very recently I had absolutely no interest in this movie. If it weren't for the last 2 trailers I would be avoiding this film like the plague, now I am curious but at the same time my expectations are very, very low.
I thought the very first X-men film was below average. I thought the second one was good ( good, not great ). X-Men 3 was awful. I enjoyed X-men First Class ( the strongest movie in the series ) but the movie does not stand up well to repetetive viewings. The Wolverine spin of films are also a mixed bag with Wolverine Origins being awful and The Wolverine being brilliant ( I rank it higher than First Class ). As far as I am concerned this series does not have a very good track record in live action film. I blame the visual style, Brian Singer established a certain visual style for these movies with the costumes and Mistque's body paint and my opinion it isn't very good, the actors look strange in their costumes and I always feel as if something is off about about the look of X1, X2, X3 and Days of future past.

Keep in mind that when X-Men first came out there was a very, very different market for comic book movies out there. Today, I think an X-Men properly absolutely could rock proper X-Men outfits (which First-Class sort of does, and even this movie does with Magneto wearing something that looks a lot more like his old outfit).

Well I'll be damned, why have I never seen or heard of this before. I know it's just the headpiece/cowl and the gloves but that looks bad ass.

Yeah...it was cut because of Days of Future Past...which is a shame.

It's a shame that they didn't just own up to the First-Class being a pure reboot, ignoring everything beforehand, and running with their opportunity to do the X-men over in a super comic friendly market.
The X-men have a lot of really great stories. Except for the last few years, but that's my own view because I hate what they've done to Cyclops recently (especially in A v. X).

They should have done a reboot with, you know, the actual First Class.

Lot's of places to go from there with as much sequels and new characters as they liked.
I'm kind of looking forward to watch how they try to work with their two existing timelines, but I'd have wished more for simply a real fresh start, even with their weird First Class team. As much as I liked parts of the old X-Men cast - the continuity ist just fucked up. Although it's really the first Wolverine solo movie that completely breaks everything. We'll see how they deal with that in DoFP and the sequel Singer already announced.
Well, and we'll have to see what will become of Singer's current personal problems. Pretty nasty stuff, regardless of which party is right. ![]()
