Wasn't it already confirmed that, for example,Cassandra could wear a sword n' shield, or a two hander, etc?

Wich means that if the released date gets pushed to 2015, we are actually twice as screwed. Not only we have to wait a lot more, but we will be given less stuff to enjoy.

If you'd prefer, there could be no slippage and you could enjoy an unpolished game that arrived right on time. Angsting over the potential loss of features which couldn't have been delivered to the perfection you imagine in your head is a waste of time-- we don't cut things that are already completed and working.

An 2014 release seems more desperate then ever.

I'd caution against panicking over something that hasn't actually happened yet. The release date remains as Fall 2014.

Rude! I simply meant that I didn't want to see the game lose potentially good content because the release date might get pushed. Of course I don't wish the game to come out unpolished.

A couple of pieces of advice then, if the release does get postponed. First, try to refine what you've already built up, mainly the graphics and game mechanics. Hopefully this time the graphics won't stay the same as of the pre-alpha build(like what happened with DA 2).

Secondly, Take this time to listen to user feedback. I know you guys hold back a lot due to the fear of community backlash on some of the choices you make on your game design, but try to involve the community more in what you're doing. Even if you don't outright say anything, I'd like to see threads constantly created by developers asking for community opinions on different elements of the game.

Just thought this would be a good time to say this.

I really don't want to hear about another wait. This would be the 3rd or 4th title I was expecting at one point or another that was pushed back because of something or the other. I understand it when you say the project is proving to be more difficult, or some kind of technical jargon is involved but when it's "We might have to delay it because we want to space out our big hits so we don't break the market." I tend to frown and bemoan about that. Not every game is marketable to everyone, I personally don't care about Battlefield 4, NBA, Sims or MMA, I want Dragon Age. So unless development needs more time to make the game they want, I don't want EA butting in talking about business and marketing.

I'll just reiterate and add to what Dave said. The release date remains Fall 2014 and there's no discussion in the team of pushing the date back.

I'm assuming that any delay would be for the sake of the game's quality, not because of business and marketing. I would hope that the relevant departments would be able to market the game well regardless of when it's released.

Anyway, I understand people's frustration, but just think of how poorly things can go when games are released ahead of time. Look at the shambolic endgame of KotOR II, a game that could have been better than the KotOR if it hadn't been so unfinished. Once a game is finished properly, to a good standard, you've got it forever. The same is true of a game that's released at poor standard. Sure, a healthy modding community can repair a lot, but it's going to take them far longer to do so than it would have taken the original dev team if they'd just been given more time.

Not only am I okay with a potential delay for DA:I, I am okay with any extra delays as long as they help it to be a better game.  It's good to hear that the delay isn't actually on the cards at present, because I'd certainly like to get the game next year.  But if it comes to that, it's better than releasing it unfinished.

I want my Warrior to wield 2 shields and shield bash everyone into dust, or throw them like frizbees and watch bounce of walls and enemy heads back into my hands. Also dual wielding staves for my mages with gatling gun like results.

Well they have about 10 to 12 months give or take 2 for bug fixing & Distribution. That seems like enough time to finish this thing given the development time this game has already had IMO although I'm no Developer.

The only other reason I can see for a potential delay is that Fall 2014 might be a cluster **** of triple A games all fighting for gamers attention. Although the only one that I can think of that's targeting the same audience as Bioware is the Witcher 3 & that's it.

BTW what absolutely HUGE games are coming out late 2014 apart from COD & Assassins creed? A new Naughty Dog or 343 game? Seems like a good window to release DA:I in to me (As long as its playable/ hopefully Good)

So, I'm not here to gripe if the game's release *does* get pushed back. If it's pushed back, it's pushed back. Thus is life. Can they add more to Dragon Age Inquisition if the fans are made to wait until 2015?

If the release date does slip, and that's IF, it will undoubtedly because we feel we need more time to make the game we currently have on our hands. At that point we will be cutting content that's not finished yet, not adding new content in. You will get less features, possibly some that were already mentioned would be removed, not new features thrown in as candy to "reward" you for the extra wait.

David, stop posting on the forums and GET BACK TO WORK on that autumn release date ;)

I super excited to play Inquisition, too...but really, I'd much, much, much rather them push the game back in order to iron it out than rush it for an earlier release and force them to cut corners.

Remember, good things come to those who wait, y'all.

That sucks. A lot. I think that would definitely diminish the DA fanbase.

Well, apparently they don't if you read Gaider's comment on the first page of the thread. :crying:

Aye, I'm aware of and understand what he's saying.  Sometimes additional content has to get cut for various reasons and that requires more time to trim the fat, so to speak.  It sucks to lose that extra content, but c'est la vie.

What I meant by "I want them to iron things out and not cut corners" is that I don't want them giving us a game full of bugs.  Nothing is more immersion-breaking for me than a glitchy game.

That is too true.

But I really would not want to lose content in addition to waiting. That also seems counterproductive to the whole waiting aspect. Gaider explained it, but I find it hard to believe that cutting content is the only option. If content is cut then, well, Bioware is just shooting themselves in the foot. They'll likely lose a lot of fans who are still butthurt over DA2.

If they have to push the game release again , it will probably just be a few months because the game isn't ready to be shipped.
In this short time , they obviously won't be creating content , they will polish and throw away what can't be done in time.

What you gain by waiting is a game with less bug and less stuff that can seem half finished.
There is no point in adding content that just isn't working ,fans will notice that.
The things that gets cut?You probably will never heard about it anyway.

The march towards release involves cuts for every game, including every one we've made to date. There have always been cuts. All I was saying is that, were the date to slip, it would be because that process is ongoing-- we would be trying to finish the game, not adding in new content. That's called scope creep.

So asking "what ADDITIONAL stuff would we get for waiting?" is disingenuous. Were a delay to occur, what you would end up getting is a polished game as opposed to an unpolished one.

Either way, it hasn't happened. Our release date has not changed. If I'm forced to, I will end the thread with that statement so people don't run around spreading misinformation to those who don't know any better.

They're taking a clear stance of only revealing features that are extremely likely to make it to the final game, so, yeah. If anything is next to the chopping block we're not going to hear about it. But things being next to the chopping block is par for the course for game development so we really dont need to fret about shroedinger's features.

I can be patient as long as the game is polished and bug free. What the team has shown so far is amazing, and while I'd love them to hit their scheduled release date, bug free is more important to me.

The lack of a wait would likely mean more content being cut.

As David said, a lot of stuff ends up on the chopping block. Some stuff was chopped early in the production, other stuff is chopped later for a variety of reasons.
