This exactly.Wulfram wrote...
I doubt they've got a name that's not along the lines of "the World" or "Ground", since they don't have anywhere else especially to distinguish it. We still call our planet "ground" more or less, after all.
Actually, does Thedas have any other planets orbiting it's sun?
In Dragon Age, the name of the world is earth. In fact, in the native language of any fantasy or science fiction realm, the name would be earth. If you take Star Trek as an example, Vulcan wasn't named by Vulcans, it was named by humans. Just as our sun is not Sol. Sol is 'sun' in Latin. It is still 'sun' in a fancy language.
Since there is no need to distinguish the planet of Thedas from any other planet, like is required in Star Trek, calling it earth would be appropriate. It is only a false mental barrier that prevents people from thinking of it as earth, and associating that name only with our real-world planet.
[edit]
I'll add that the writers might have some name in mind, but there is no real reason why the people in Thedas should use it. We call our planet earth, soil, ground, dirt, and any developing civilization would do so.

Regardless, it is still the same word.Br3ad wrote...
Forgive me, but considering that Latin came first, wouldn't Sun just be Sol in a fancy language?
In Star Trek, Vulcans made First Contact with us after they observed that we had discovered warp speed. They were much more advanced and were basically just hanging around waiting for us to do this. I'm sure they had a name for our sun, our planet, galaxy, and so on, none of which match the names we currently use.
We should have used the names the Vulcans came up with since they likely named them first, being a more advanced civilization. But we don't do that since the language of the Star Trek series is English.
To simplify, if we discovered a civilization on Mars, do you think they would call their planet Mars and themselves Martians? No, those are our names for them.

Star Trek isn't a good example of his, a better one is Halo believe it or not. There is Earth as we know it, but thats not what the forerunners call it. they called it Erde-Tyrene.nightscrawl wrote...

At any rate, let's not use any examples from fiction then. Just go with my example of Mars.

With an exception with TES, because those human are not really human anyway...as Dwarf is not really Dwarf. In TES there are Man, Mer, Manmer and Beast

In any universe, every human speak English, so Thedas reside on Earth if taken what Waynne said literally. To name it other than Earth seems like alien, unless non-human who call it something else

Not everyone speaks English in Thedas. Anyway, I thought that the "proper" name for Earth is Tellus since that is the roman goddess that named it. Similar to Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus and Pluto.

Terran was coined by Philip K. Dick. Terra and Tellus are interchangable for the same goddess, you can read more about it on wikipedia. Link

Most of the inhabitants of the continent of Thedas simply consider that the world. (I posted a link earlier.)
