Hello !

I would like to request to the Bioware staff that they release a map editor available for the public in ME4 .

Just imagine what we can do with something like that on our disposal. Arcade modes, zombie ( husk ) modes, turret defense modes.

Thank you in advance.

I want an editor editor.

So I can edit the editor to edit more than maps. I want to edit kits, edit powers, edit maps, edit objectives, edit weapons.

Edit ALL TEH THINGS!

I'd rather dedicated servers ... which would kinda make map editing for the MP game slightly pointless unless you're renting a gaming server.

Not really sure I'm going to buy ME4 yet anyway - I've done Shepard's story, had a blast in ME3MP, I'm not sure the ME universe is compelling enough to pull me back in to start another epic :\\

I agree with you, I too won't be buying ME4 if it is a prequal. Maybe if the MP is better than what we have now and we get a lot of cool options, maybe then I will reconsider.

it is not that easy ,
RTS game can have a map editor but tps/fps game is not that easy
usually RTS game is top view, and it usually make up of tile.
this tile can be similar to some chess game .it can be trees , plain area, sea , it is a manageable asset with its own property (like sea can not be cross by ground unit etc..)

but TPS/FPS is not work in this way. because we see the world in a more complex 3D view.
you may be able to make some simple tile to make a maze in 3D(you will find the map boring easily) but you can not make a 3D map simple by repeating all the assets. the view of map dagger obviously is not the same as firebase white.

what other people do about modding map in 3d is they create the level in 3d software. and then export to the game engine. if the game does not support modding, they replace the original level with their modding. and there are many problems inside that may introduce bugs. like you may fall into a place outside the map and can't get back to play.

I am sure it's a lot more complex than editing a RTS game, but I saw map editing in older games like Quake 2 , one of my friends made these amazing maps with the editor. I realize that it's complicated, but there are people who can do it. New maps will keep the game lifespan running almost indefinetly.

If Bioware/EA can include this feature in their new game it would be amazing.

Quake's editor resembled a 3D modeller in a way, while I'm guessing Skyrim's editor is a step closer to Mass Effect's in similarity; it had pieces like floors, walls, furniture, etc... from different sets. Looking at the videos from DAI's development might give you an idea of how it could look for ME4's editors as the games use the same engine at the core.

Edit: Point is, that the editor is a part of their toolset to work with the Frostbite engine, and likely not a self-contained program that can be used by end users. Even with the editor, there'll need to be more to it to add any story content.

If you want modding tools, go play a Bethesda game (GECK, Elder Scrolls Construction Set). EA doesn't do modding.

Not gonna happen, exploiting that for easy farming maps would be too easy.
And EA/Frostbite isn't known for great modding support anyway.

They should, though. Modding can keep a game alive indefinitely.

Great points from all of you .

We know how fanatical the ME fans are and how much they invest in this game/universe. I am sure they will create spectacular content with the map editor. That's why I believe it is a very good idea.

I imagine this would be met with quite a degree of interest. Having community maps which could be downloaded would be pretty cool. And then having competitions where they can be voted into "official" status would have been be a big positive for the me3 multiplayer experience.

I wouldn't personally use the designer, but would love playing all the new content.

This is why EA thinks it's a bad idea. They don't want people to create free content for the game. If fan-made mods could be sold through online platforms via microtransactions, the market would drown in map editors and game-specific development tools.

How does that benefit EA?

Maybe they should take the example from Blizzard with Starcraft 2. Many people ( including me) play Starcraft 2 for the custom maps alone. There are ways to profit from this, put the best custom maps into the official map pool and charge a fee for a map pack ( 1 $ for 3 new maps ). Make it so you can earn credits only on official maps. You can play custom unofficial maps for fun alone and for experience.

The theory would be that more people buy the game and it holds its price longer. For multiplayer people would spend more in microtransactions.

People keep playing the game for longer, and people are more likely to buy expansions or the sequel then those that bin it after beating the campaign once.

Does it actually work that way? How many people will stick around for toolset-made stuff that wouldn't stick around for the DLC cycle? (Plus a certain amount of folks who won't bother with paid DLC because they've already got enough game, though now that we've gone fully-voiced the quality gap is large enough that I don't think this is a significant group.)
