I have seen everything from "The ability does nothing at all and is glitched" to "it has nothing to do with the enemy weapon, it goes off after a timer". Even the wiki had it wrong stating there is simply a 1.5 second delay and then it goes off.
From what I have observed the ability functions exactly as it is explained in the game, I hit an enemy or two with sabotage, they get into a firing position and whenever they next try to fire their gun at me the ability activates and brings the enemy to his knees.
Is this correct? I am further curious to know if sabotage activates during enemy melee like with a sword phantoms. Also does the tech vulnerability perk affect the disruptor damage from the Quarian melee? Female Quarian Infilitrator is such an under-rated kit with some already incredible melee builds, I'd love to see them synergize with sabotage even better.
Killer gold melee build, can handle mobs, bosses you name it

Everybody always seems so confused about backfire with sabotage

I am trying to find a thread on it, but I know this video by OniGanon explains everything you need to know: . I believe you need anotations on as they will give you the information you need.
But to answer your questions:
1) For once, I think the wiki is right and the backfire goes off at 1.5s after an organic enemy is sabotaged. This includes enemies without weapons such as Ravagers and Brutes. Backfire does not occur on synthetic enemies (all geth, Atlas mechs, Cerberus turrets).
Enemies can fire at you and can hit between the time they are hit with Sabotage and the backfire occurs.
2) The Tech Vulnerability damage increase does apply to the Quarian Female heavy melee.
3) Sabotage (and the backfire) can activate during an enemy melee strike but they may not necessarily be staggered out of it. Phantoms, for example, require 1000 newtons of force to stagger, and sometimes an enemy's animation may need to finish and cannot be cancelled except by death.

Thanks that's helpful and great to hear that the quarian heavy melee gets the tech boost awesome stuff. Yeah I started to realize after I posted that the topics here look like single player build information not multiplayer so oops sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

Don't worry, gameplay mechanics information and requests are less likely to get lost in a wash of nonsense in this forum.
