I bought the base game via Steam some time back, for $19.99.  I went with base because I wanted to make sure I liked it.  I do, and now I'm thinking about getting various DLC content (like Warden's Keep and such).

First I want to confirm that Ultimate includes everything, even stuff like the Feastday Gifts.

The Ultimate Edition on Steam costs $29.99, which is 10 bucks more than what I paid.  $10 is cheaper than buying enough BW Points to get each invidividual download.

Is there any way to upgrade to Ultimate other than shelling out another 30 bucks?  And if I get it I want to make sure installing Ultimate over my existing game won't screw it up.

Thanks for any advice.

Yes, Ultimate Edition includes all the DLC. I don't believe you can simply "upgrade" to Ultimate. And to avoid overwriting your current games, move your character folder (or copy it) to another location on your computer. Once you've installed the Ultimate Edition, you can then drop your character folder in and your games will all be there.

I know Steam runs the occasional sale, what about BioWare? Do they ever have sales?

But do understand that UE and the original version shouldn't be installed simultaneously - it can led to some really strange behavior...
Buying DA:UE is probably the most cost effective way to acquire all the DLC....

here's a blog about saving your games, uninstalling DA:O and installing DA:UE:

As BevH said, Copy your character folders (located in Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/Characters on Win7) to some other location before starting anything.

Good luck!

Thanks all!

Now I have to decide how badly I want this; putting DA:O aside until the next sale or not.

Woot!  Didn't have to wait too long.

DA:O Ultimate is on sale now for 1/2 off on Steam!

To answer your question, Bioware has sales as well. Bought DAUE for a measly € 11,99 and Battlefield 2 for € 1 today B)

FYI, "upgrading" to Ultimate Edition works just fine if you save a copy of your character folder elsewhere, completely uninstall DA:O and then install DAUE as others already pointed out. I´d like to add that the downloadable content originally didn´t show up for me ingame, but this issue was easily fixed by installing the 1.05 patch, works like a charm since then... already kicking darkspawn butt again with my imported dual wielding Dwarf Commoner Rogue from my previous DA:O install!

Don't forget to also download the free 'A Tale of Orzammar' DLC, which is not included in any editions currently sold on Origin or Steam.

Thanks, I was completely oblivious of this DLC so far. Will download right away.

Yep thanks all for the advice and tips!  I have Ultimate installed and everything appears to be working fine.

After backing up my Characters and Settings folders, I completely uninstalled the original game, then installed Ultimate (via Steam), which prompted me to "activate" my new content with Bioware.  Also explicitly "registered" Ultimate itself with Bioware as well.  After all this, copied my backups back into place.

Did not have to do anything else.  Looks all good.  :)

There was a sale a couple days ago on steam, you should've bought it by now right? ;p
