What if you don't import a character?

If you don't import your character, how are the decisions your character made in ME1 determined for your newly made ME2 character?

Will it randomly decide who you let die in ME1, whether you supported the council or not, etc?

Or will it be a form you fill out or something similar?

You sort of fill out a list of questions, I think. I saw a bit of it from a clip somewhere.

No, I remember seeing an interview with Dr. Ray Muzyka a few weeks back where he said that if you haven't played ME 1 or don't have a save to carry over, you could just start ME 2 and they'd (the game, I mean) would make certain assumptions about what would have happened if you had played ME 1. Danged if I know what those assumptions are.

If you don't import a character the default shepard takes over. Meaning his/her story from the first game is put on to you not your own shep story. There will be a default story plot

It'll act like Shepard went through ME1 in a speed run, skipping side missions and such. I assume the huge decisions, like the ending choice(s) may be asked beforehand, but I could be wrong.

I'm 90% sure that's just misinformation inspired by people taking the wrong idea from a demonstration demo defaulting to certain decisions.

Miranda asks you questions about your past major decisions, what you answer there decides what the story carried over is.

My understanding, which certainly could be wrong, is that Miranda asks you some questions about your past to check your memory when you wake up and those questions define your character. She also asks them when you import, but if you get them wrong with an import she tells you so.

We'll know soon enough. I sure hope we get to choose the major points, I don't want to have to do another ME1 run just to get some variation.

We have a set of decisions based on what we felt was 'Canon' follow up by some questions through out the game that will help define the story thus far for you.

Could be, but I think Dr. Muzyka said it himself. Now let's see if I can find the video...

This is what I believe is the case from past information.  If you import, outside of changing class and apperance, I don't think you can rewrite your history though.  What's on the checklist is what you're getting, you can't change it outside of bringing over a different save.  If you try to lie to Miranda about it, she corrects you and you're stuck with what you should have.

So a bit of both?  For example, would I get to decide if I saved the council or the Rachni Queen?  Or, if you can't answer that, can I make any "major" decisions or are they canon?

You can't decide whether or not you saved the Council. That's decided for you.

I'm pretty sure the canon is that if you're male you didn't, if you're female you did.

What makes you think this?  Not saying you're wrong, you may well be right, just curious.

(I sort of hate this, I almost always saved the council, so for my characters it's canon.  I just want to have a new character with no romance, for guilt free romances, without having to do an entire ME1 run.  Sort of tired of ME1, great as it is).

LoL Whut?  Where did you hear that (as it's totally wrong).

Locking it down as I've answered the original question.

Then your Xbox 360 or PC will explode in a fiery wave of destruction, thus creating a new grand canyon in the spot where your entertainment center used to reside. Bioware strongly urges that you simply import your saves.
