Hello.

After quite a while I decided to replay DA:O.
In this playthrough I'm a dwarf dual-wield warrior.

As I hit level 7, I got spec. point, but I can use it already? I mean I can choose Berserker without going to Orzamar first, for instance.
I did some digging, and according to Dragon Age wikia:
"Specializations can be unlocked at any level and will stay unlocked on
subsequent replays. Thus, it is possible, before making a decision that
will get you a specialization but will cause approval loss for party
members, to save, unlock the specialization and then revert to the save"

Could anyone explain to me this in detail please? I'm craving after Berserker at the moment, but if I choose it now - without the book, or without talking to Oghren - how will this affect my gameplay later on?
I don't care about the book, tbh, I'm concerned about my relation with Oghren or if other party members will react  in a negative way?

Thanks in advance for any provided help.

EDIT: Could anyone also tell me if it's possible to see completed steps of a quest in the quest log?

Basically unlocking a specialization will unlock it for all future playthroughs. Dunno whether it's intentional or a bug, but doesn't really make sense.

Anyway, taking the spec won't have any gameplay implications. Aside from having the extra stats and talents in fights of course.

For your edit, it depends on the quest. Some will show finished parts, others will only show the current step.

Could be wrong, but I think having awakening installed gives you a handful of specializations already unlocked.

Hello,

Thank you for taking time to respond.
ViaNegativia: yes, I have DA:O Ultimate Edition off Steam, which comes with Awakening and quite a bunch of DLCs.

Frankly I find it awkward to finally arrive in Orzammar (just an example) to meet the legendary Oghren to teach me.... nothing... Sigh. I remember first time when I learned specialization it was a truly epic feeling.

I guess my only choice is simply to ignore the fact that I already unlocked them, and simply wait until I meet the trainer...

Feels like game-breaking to me...

I consider it more like a New Game+ kind of thing. As a reward for achieving this unlock, you get to bring it to every subsequent playthrough.

If it helps, you don't HAVE to pick a spec at level 7. You can save the point, wait until someone teaches you the spec you want to learn, and then take the spec. I do that sometimes to help with story immersion.
