I beat DA years ago, but the one character that I always wanted to create was a Chasind mage.  In my story, he/she (haven't decided on which gender it will be yet) lived in a tribe that was close to Ostagar, and was spotted by the templars in his/her later years of childhood (and therefore, learned Chasind culture as opposed to being fully brainwashed by the Circle).  To make this character as authentic as possible, I would need answers to these questions that are as canon as possible:

1.  What should the skin tone, hair color, and eye color be?
2.  What types of magic should he/she specialize in (shapeshifter and primal spells, would be my guess)?
3.  Do the Chasind tattoo themselves?
4.  What is their relationship with the Elves like?

Thanks.  :)

I would assume they would look close to Fereldans, since they are basicly the same people. Except they would be dirtier. :)

Magic? You're probably right with shapeshifting. But I would assume they would have the same magic as everyone else, but more heathen, if that makes any sense.
Their healing would probably evolve around salves and potions, basicly advansed tribal...Native american... Woodpeople... With bits of magical healing.

They probably tattoo themselves with tribal, or maybe family tatoos. Or tattoos that show what they do in society.

I would assume the society would be close to the native lifestyles we see around the globe. I would only assume they would be closest to the Sami people that live in northern Scandinavia. (Because Thedas is basicly turned upside down, so north is south. So it is quite cold the further south you get in Ferelden, but not as cold as Eskimos.)

They don't tattoo themself, but BioWare wouldnt copy'n'paste a society from the real world, so maybe a mix between the Sami people and maybe Mongolian tribes? Native Americans? Or maybe barbaric African tribes, but instead of jungles, they live in cold pine forests? Also a valid assumption.

"The Chasind also say that a wasteland of snow and ice waits further to the south, filled only with desolate tundra and nomadic barbarians, but the northerners believe little of what the Chasind tell them."

Taken from the Dragon Age wiki. So perhaps the Sami people of Dragon Age are further south, and the Chasind are like African tribes in cold forests.

Relationship with elves? Good question. I don't think the elves likes any kind of humans, on a grand social level that is.
But I honestly don't know, the picture of instant attack is just as bright as peacefull trading in my mind. Maybe it depends on sertain Dalish tribes, as it depends on sertain Chasind tribes, some might be hostile toward the other and some might be peacefull toward the other.

I don't think the Chasind have an overall social structure, since they are wild forest dwellers. I know they don't like northeners (Fereldans) very much. So previously in history they banded together to attack, but I don't know how the tribes look upon eachother. If every tribe look upon itself as an independant society, or if they look at the Chasind as a people overall.

Your question intrigued me, so sorry for the long post. :)

Thanks for the input, Hugebull. That all sounded like great advice, but now that I think of it, the human mage's last name is Amell, which is nobility in Kirkwall. So storywise, a Chasind mage probably wouldn't fit, since he/she would be related to Hawke and would descend from nobility.

Really? I had no idea the human mage would have ties to Kirkwall. I never play a mage character, but thats cool.

You could always pretend that Amell was a name your mage picked up once he came to the circle, to prevent others from knowing he was a Chasind. I would imagine being a Chasind would get you into all sorts of trouble.

So go ahead, make your Chasind mage NOW! Live your dream... Cat!

PS: I love your picture-name combo.
