It's been over 19 months since ME3 came out and my feel is we should already get some basic info about the next ME game. There is no info aside from the "No more Shepard" statement.

Any idea when devs will lossen their lips and finally tell us what to prepare for?

And by "soon" I hope you don't mean the middle of 2014 (oh God, no).

I honestly don't have a clue as to when any sort of info on the next ME game may be released. I haven't seen much news in the twitter thread either, which can be found here.

They said that Bioware is mainly focusing on DAI now, and even for DAI we've got not much information about it since E3 2013. So, information for the next ME? I'll give it a try on N7 day. Other than that? Not optimistic.

Some time after the next DA has been released.
And at a time that fits the marketing plan for getting the fans hyped without wearing them out before release.

The 2013 VGA would be more probable I think.

Yea the two dates I see keep popping up are N7 day and VGA '13... Soooo maybe something but nothing groundbreaking.

Realistically I'd say a teaser sometime next year, but DA:I is going to be their focal point here for the next many months.

Well, let's hope BioWare does bring Mass Effect series to the righful apex of it's potential.
Any info we could get before 2014 would be awesomesauce.

Another great series is Dead Space witch also has great room for "Dead Space 4".

Somewhere between Christmas 2014 and Summer 2015 is my guess.

This VGA at the earliest and E3 014 at the latest. It can be just an announcement trailer though, with ME3 we got it at a VGA but the only solid info came a few months later.

I don't expect to see any kind of artwork or footage until E3 next year. The latest statement given was weeks ago and it sounded as if they've still not decided what the story should even be.
(Note that according to Final Hours, ME1 was more than a year in development before they even knew where to begin with the actual story, and they ended up changing things up a lot)

I also wish them luck with hiring that writer, because I want ME4 to have a really talented writer for once. Not that those don't exist with BW but tbh they've been had by the amazing writers elsewhere in the industry from studios such as Telltale, The Witcher, Naughty Dog (heck I'd argue even Kojima is better)

Bioware just needs someone who's fully commited to writing and doesn't end up with half-baked ideas. We just need a really solid plot for once. It's been so long since I've experienced that in a Bioware game.

I would bet the next game won't be ready for release until 2016, since they are changing engines and developing an all new storyline. So I personally don't expect any kind of announcement until late 2014 after DA:I or even early 2015.

I would feel satisfied with the early 2016 release, provided BioWare told us if it is a prequel or a sequel to finally end this spree of 100 topics asking about the time setting of the next game...

I really don't care when or how long we have to wait as long as they decide to take the same approach to the information given as the Dragon Age team with "Show and don't tell" for that is what hurt Mass Effect 3 for me for I was expecting things that probably weren't possible, but since they just gave vague ideas it made me hope for something that it was not.

My guess for when they would release information would be about a year before release and only earlier like Dragon Age: Inquisition if they push back the release date after scheduling information releases.

2013 - Preliminary info barely (we'll know the most basic things to work with, maybe tease pics on N7 Day)
2014 - Intro info, teaser trailer, more in-depth but still preview interviews (we'll have a good idea of the setting, some characters, where we're at in DA:I right now basically, but maybe more)
2015 - Full trailer, substantial info, substantial interviews, PR videos in leadup to launch with launch trailer

My prediction. Don't expect a lot with N7 Day unless they plan on a GIANT reveal of something (which I wouldn't bet on - it's just possible is all).

They may be changing engines for the series, but DA:I and it will be sharing many design tools in the same engine. Bioware people have spoken on how that means something like more agile development and generally shared gameplay systems.

No this does not mean the same games. It means something more like KOTOR and Jade Empire being similarly made, but clearly very different games with different gameplay experiences and mechanics for the player.

I'd be QUITE surprised if it is released in 2016, but I suppose it could somehow happen, but no later than that. Late 2015 is my latest prediction, and it's even possible for earlier. They're already working with internal builds, their initial writing drafts seem to be complete, and 2014 seems to be dealing more with DA:I giving them some leeway. (Earlier, they said 'ME4' for Late 2014-2015, but that is likely pushed back already)

Remember that even in 2012, they were prototyping systems and working on the writing for the next game.

That's technically over 3 years of development to get to 2015. Thinking it'll come out in 2016 is a bit silly imo, considering the shared systems with DA:I, even though it's possible.
(If it was an entirely different engine to DA:I, yeah I'd say more 2016-2017)

The writer in Bioware games is just more the implementer of larger ideas.

You can bet that it went more like (TO PUT IT INCREDIBLY BROADLY):

Casey - I want there to be a choice between the Reapers and the current Cycle's species
Drew - Ok, I'll make it about Dark Energy
*Drew leaves*
Mac - Ok, let's make it more about the synthetic and organic confict - we have enough lead-up to that anyway, right?
Casey - I agree, sounds good.
*plans*
Mac&Casey - Ok here's the deal.
Weekes - Hmm alright, I'll retool my character and arc stories to fit this stuff... revise revise... ok, Tuchanka fits in now.

etc.

(A major problem MIGHT have been that those in charge for writing the ending, didn't consult enough with the others on it. There became a disconnect between the larger ideas which in the basest form may have existed from the stary, and the story flow itself.)

You can blame Mac, I'm sure, for a lot of the stuff we had in front of our faces, but you should probably blame Casey for the situation in the first place, as the creator of Mass Effect and the one who directs the whole trend of the series and what gets 'okayed'. Game development is not the same as, say, book publishing.

Not really disagreeing with your post, but more expressing a concern that people pin far too much on writers when it may be more of a problem with the idea men, and pin far too much on the idea men, when there could be a larger view of the series that just hasn't been tackled yet (future games), and wasn't communicated well enough with the writers for ME3.
