Any idea when we might get actual preliminary info on "ME4"?

Can't really see them anouncing anything until after DA:I is finished, I have a feeling they want to give the team working on the next ME game as much time as they need into the project and announcing anything may hinder that.

I don't expect to see any kind of artwork or footage until E3 next year. The latest statement given was weeks ago and it sounded as if they've still not decided what the story should even be.
(Note that according to Final Hours, ME1 was more than a year in development before they even knew where to begin with the actual story, and they ended up changing things up a lot)

I also wish them luck with hiring that writer, because I want ME4 to have a really talented writer for once. Not that those don't exist with BW but tbh they've been had by the amazing writers elsewhere in the industry from studios such as Telltale, The Witcher, Naughty Dog (heck I'd argue even Kojima is better)

Bioware just needs someone who's fully commited to writing and doesn't end up with half-baked ideas. We just need a really solid plot for once. It's been so long since I've experienced that in a Bioware game.

The writer in Bioware games is just more the implementer of larger ideas.

You can bet that it went more like (TO PUT IT INCREDIBLY BROADLY):

Casey - I want there to be a choice between the Reapers and the current Cycle's species
Drew - Ok, I'll make it about Dark Energy
*Drew leaves*
Mac - Ok, let's make it more about the synthetic and organic confict - we have enough lead-up to that anyway, right?
Casey - I agree, sounds good.
*plans*
Mac&Casey - Ok here's the deal.
Weekes - Hmm alright, I'll retool my character and arc stories to fit this stuff... revise revise... ok, Tuchanka fits in now.

etc.

(A major problem MIGHT have been that those in charge for writing the ending, didn't consult enough with the others on it. There became a disconnect between the larger ideas which in the basest form may have existed from the stary, and the story flow itself.)

You can blame Mac, I'm sure, for a lot of the stuff we had in front of our faces, but you should probably blame Casey for the situation in the first place, as the creator of Mass Effect and the one who directs the whole trend of the series and what gets 'okayed'. Game development is not the same as, say, book publishing.

Not really disagreeing with your post, but more expressing a concern that people pin far too much on writers when it may be more of a problem with the idea men, and pin far too much on the idea men, when there could be a larger view of the series that just hasn't been tackled yet (future games), and wasn't communicated well enough with the writers for ME3.

That is true, but I also wonder how much all the branches in the story as minor as they might be also hurt the game. Games like Last of Us (I am basing this opinion on what my friends have told me) seems to be a really linear game without many variations to the direction or order of the game. The other thing I wonder is if there was any "The fans want to see 'x', so lets try to include that, make it fit in the story" for that is how all the returning companions felt to me and that is probably the part of the game I dislike the most until Priority: Earth.

Wait... you're saying you would have preferred less of the ME2 squadmated?

I wouldn't have mind if they reduced the number of characters that returned from ME2 in ME3 if the ones that did make an appearance didn't feel like such a throwaway appearance just so everyone's favorite returned for a few lines of dialogue.

I wouldn't mind some of the characters from ME2 or ME3 provided ME4 takes place many years after the events of ME3

Another thing to consider is that the ME movie is still in development that may push back the release of ME4.

Well, I am thinking that it will be either at VGA or N7 Day this year. I think it could quite possibly be VGA because this year VGA is being held in Toronto, were Bioware is based. N7 day is also a good guess but I know what I would put my money on. Anyway, I think all we would get would be a teaser trailer of some sort but I suppose that is enough for know :P.

Any info would be more any than we've received for quite a while now, so yeah I do suppose a teaser or pretty much any preliminary info on ME4 would be quite enough for now.  ;)

As I said - BioWare, tell us at least, if it is a prequel (oh please, no...) or a sequel (now were talkin').

People are pondering that and asking this question every 5 entries in almost every topic...

When I was at comic con they said there working hard on the new game and trying to return old features like vehciles and exploration, I suggested and hoped for some new things.

I wouldn't expect anything until E3 2014. Maybe not even until E3 2015. Who knows how long they plan on taking for ME4.

If this would be a game just like Mass Effect with everything polished to the bottom, then we could get best ME game to date.

Let's hope BioWare will have as much $ and time to finish the game.

He mentioned nothing about the story but exploration making a return. I really want and hope for the other features I mentioned before and a good story, they should still have both genders and leave it RPG/Shooter or a RPG Open Wold Sandbox be great too.

Given that we as a fanbase have proven ourselves rabid, they best be careful with what they release and how :P

BioWare will release information on the next Mass Effect game when they have something to share and when it makes sense for them to do so. At this point, their next project to release is Dragon Age Inquisition. Perhaps they'll release more teasers this year, perhaps they'll wait until convention season 2014, perhaps they'll wait longer. Then again, perhaps not.

But continuing to ask when they'll do it won't make it come any faster. Consider the answer to any "when are they releasing new information?" question to be "when they're ready to," absent any official release date information. Thank you.

End of line.
