I must be really lucky. I play on Xbox and pc and both platforms I see lots of competent players in gold willing to revive and get to wave 11. Very few times in random gold matches do things go really wrong for me nowadays

You're addressing 90% of the player-base, and at least 99% of those aren't on the BSN.

It's better to discuss why we're actually playing gold. Let's face it; 99% of people here need their epeen a-stroking in one way or another.

yeah, the only people still playing are the lifers. I have a harder time finding more things to kill than actually losing a gold game. 

Something would have to seriously, epically, go sideways to lose a gold game. Like 4 krogans all getting banshee'd in 1 wave......yeah....that happened recently.....and the last 1 was 1 KV vs 1 banshee left.....Facepalm moment.

Well some people can do that... It would be rare for a literal newbie to pull off something like that. Better guns and/or more resilient classes would let them fare better on gold.

Really good players can play anything well on high difficulties (though offcourse a fully optimised build * (op?) build would do even better).

* By build here I mean class, powers, gear, mods and weapons.

Ie. I can do "well" as a juggernaught. Revive, shield (bodily and literally), heal, tank and even do enough damage to get me on top of the scoreboard sometimes, if team mates are new or just doing less damage than me. But with the focus on scores and damage output I'll never do awesome compaired to ie. an equally skilled GI, TGI or n7 destroyer. Thankfully thats not so important to me when I play jugg.

On a serious note, I actually feel pugs are now in their best or at least much much better than they used to be. The number of people I encounter who are in deep need of carrying is surprisingly low.

It seems like right now there are three types of gold puggers (on PC):
1. Moderately experienced players all the way up to BSNers, who will typically be fine.
2. Crutch kit users (jug, flamer, AIU, ghost), who may not be good but will usually not be completely hopeless (except jugs, they can go either way).
3. People who started the game yesterday.

It seems that people who are relatively experienced but really shouldn't be playing gold because they're not ready for it just don't exist anymore. Or, more likely, they've all migrated to the crutch user category.

I've rarely been able to get a match restarted, but that was only because I used quick match to search for it by selecting the same enemy and map I was just on. Sometimes I end up in the same game I'd just left. I've never seen the match actually restart without having to use quick match.

Low level PUG'ers can do good...I was in a Gold lobby with 2 friends once and we opened it up, in spawns a guy on N7 8. I was hesitant to play with him but my friends didn't mind, so we played a few matches with him and he actually did ok. We took it up to Platinum and although he scored very low he made a good effort and we completed 4 or 5 successful matches with him.

But I agree about the state of PUGs recently...as much as my e-whatever (I'm a grill so I guess I can't have e-peen) loves it when I get to carry scrubs and walk away with everyone else's score added together even though I spawned on the fourth wave, it can suck massively. Especially when I have a chronic medi-gel shortage and keep having to use what little I have reviving myself because everyone else got hugged by a banshee.

Playing on silver or bronze does not help you get ready for gold. The only way a player will get used to such is by jumping in.

Interesting, some people seem to think that playing gold is some sort of privilege you get after playing 200+ hours of this game.

Just be careful using the term. E-peen seems acceptable, whereas I have been temp-banned before for saying e-boobs in a thread about e-peen. Apparently, e-boobs are "off-topic spam" in such a situation.

Meanwhile, on topic, you are always rolling the dice with Gold PUGs. PS3 ones haven't been too bad the last few weekends I've been on them, actually. Of course, one should also bear in mind that there seem to be a lot of folks who are playing cross-platform now (i.e. PS3 users getting an XBox or PC account and vice versa), so some low N7's may surprise you by being experienced players from another platform who know the game and can make start kits/weapons work decently.

I've had a few Gold PS3 games where I started to give a low N7 advice because I thought they were a new player... only to watch them run around lone wolf murdering EVERYTHING in-match. At which point I generally laugh and say, "Don't know what system or other PS3 ID you came from, but you obviously know what you're doing. Have fun!" LOL

I've seen guys with low level weapons and points do OK in Gold PUGs. Someone, after all, got a Gold extraction on release day, and surely not with a Harrier X.
