Haha! Would be very convenient for Andraste but a bit more boring for us.The Hierophant wrote...

Though It'll be cool if Andraste returned from the Sundermount after chatting with the Maker for 40 days & nights then found her followers serving a golden robed mage, and in her anger she forgot the Canticle of Transfigurations. Luckily for Andraste the Maker had her write it down as he recited the canticle then had her store it in a chest for safe keeping.
Sorry if I'm being a pain, by the way. I'm just very interested in precise details when it comes to religious stuff because of my job.
Really? I'll have to look that up. You know, I always suspected it was something they made up, but lately I'd started to wonder if it might ever have been true, even though the demographic implications would have been rather scary (even with uthenera). The Flying Grey Warden wrote...

I was thinking about asking you what your profession is, but i'm afraid i'll be attacked by a reject from a Dan Brown novel if i did so.Sorry if I'm being a pain, by the way. I'm just very interested in precise details when it comes to religious stuff because of my job.

But silly stance that anyone who disagrees with you in any way shape or form must be some kind of religious fanatic is actually funnier.

Returning to this... I've done a bit of looking around and found this thread, where David seemed not to contradict the elven lore. He doesn't confirm it either, just repeats it. Does anyone know where he might have said what Flying Grey Warden mentioned? The Flying Grey Warden wrote...

In Andraste's defense, she's not really responsible for the current state of the Chantry. She was burned at the stake centuries before the events of the games.

Interesting viewpoint. You don't view the New Testament as historical?

Entropic, I usually stay out of debates like this because I respect others' beliefs and understand that my own agnosticism can often come across as irreverant, even though I strive to be as openhearted and honest about my views as possible. However, your question seems to be an honest query about whether or not someone is skeptical on the historical accuracy of the New Testament- and its a question that many, many people have posed either to me, or to atheists/ agnostics of my accquaintence. Though of course I cannot speak for the "movement" as whole (and, indeed, am quite loathe to even identify myself as part of such, since it implies some sort of crazy agenda that I definitely do NOT adhere to), most of the atheists/ agnostics of my accquaintence absolutely do not believe that the New Testament is anything more than partially accurate and mildly distorted at best. If you're interested in specific reasons and evidence for this belief- check out this article. It's pretty spot on, if a bit oversimplified, in my opinion.

Any religious texts should be taken with a grain of salt and definitely not literally. I took Theology classes taught at Catholic schools and maybe my professors were simply very liberal but even in a Catholic school setting, it's taught that you can't take anything literally. The Virgin Mary was certaintly no virgin...EntropicAngel wrote...

And Christianity right after Jesus died would be considered too small for a religion but was a "cult". What is the difference between cults and relgiion? Merely the sizes. The proper thing to say about Christianity (or really any religion) was that it didn't become mainstream for a couple hundred years.

There's a reason I said "historical" instead of true.
But nvm, guess he/she isn't here anymore.

Historical? No.
Truthful? No.
Honestly it seems like stories people took from all over the empire, deeds different cults and "choosen people" have done, and older foreign religious or overexageratted historical events, and cobbled it together with a few name changes.
Also it being finally written down 200 years after jesus died, and another hundred or so before the religion was finally settled for what was or wasn't canon makes me highly skeptical if not suspicious. Its the same skepticism I have over whether socrates was as good as he was, or if plato just had a desire to glorify his hero into something larger then life.
Reminds me of a penn and teller joke. If people csnt get elvis' s favorite fried chicken recipe right, and have thousands of different versions, and thst was just a few decades ago with the advances in literacy, record keeping, and information sharing, why would people who were around hundreds of years later, where most people couldn't read or write, do with the events of a man who lived hundreds of years ago.
Also anything translated from hebrew to greek to latin is probably pretty dubious at that point.

And, IMO, she was a deluded harlot having nightmares about and getting high with too much "magic"
I'd like to think that my Warden who became King outlawed the Chantry and the Circle.

Didn't the Disciples wrote most of it after Jesus died? And the letters that are also part of the New Testament?
Clearly at least some of the Desciples could read and write and have written things down.
You can argue that wihout the original text, you cannot be sure of authenticity of the writing, but given how many historical texts are copies.... well.
