According to Dragon Age II, duelists prefer single-man combat. The battlefield is where mettle is tested and mastery is proven. They're transparent about their intents, preferring to strike with insults and bravado instead of stealth. However, I don't think this idea has properly be given justice (Isabela doesn't count, as she's a swashbuckler by the time we get to control her).
