Just play Persona 4, David.

Don't you ever suggest that again.:crying:

Persona 3 Portable then?

David would be butthurt that Mitsuru or Yukari don't throw themselves immediately at his heroic self-insert's feet and requires him to max out his academics or charm.

The fundamentals don't change. The parallels between heroes written today and heroes written hundreds or thousands of years ago are overwhelmingly obvious.

Riiiiight, because every piece of fiction is written exactly the same.

Nope. The thought of him ripping on that because reasons hurts the same.:crying:

He should stay away from my beloved Atlus franchises.

Silly nonsense? You are the one who is outright ignoring examples that contradict what you are saying because they are "obscure".

The hero follows a pattern. A path.

One of the tenets of that path is loneliness. The hero is a lonely man. Separate from the world around him, as if he's somehow crooked. In fact, it's the world that's crooked. The hero is honest.

You see no patten? Liara admits Shepard is the only friend she has left. Garrus outright tells Shepard she's his only friend. Thane admits he's never made a friend in 10 years. Shepard herself appears to have no friends at the start of the story.

The hero is lonely.

Having no family is simply one step further to cement that.

Argument, meet Invalid.

I haven't played Persona. Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark are both examples that support me. Do you think it's an accident that Tony Stark says that Pepper is all he has? An accident, that Bruce Wayne dumps his glass of champagne off the roof with contempt on his face during his party?

In any case, there are doubtless some counterexamples. It's to be expected. Not every writer is honest.

Why don't you name me off a few stories that contradict me, dreamgazer? Reasonably well known ones. I have no interest in playing "Who can name the most obscure film because that means they're the most intellectual and cultured."

David, it's not my job to educate you on fiction, nor to keep track of what you have and haven't seen, what you consider obscure, or what classifies as a "hero" in your vocabulary.  All I can suggest is that you get out there and experience more fiction.

Tony Stark has many incarnations. That line with Pepper works in the film version, but Rhodes has been many one of his biggest friends for like..umm.. 40 years of comics. He's also been friends with all of the Avengers for almost as long. He's not in some perpetual state of fighting with the Captain or Thor. He also takes Spider-Man under his wing later.

It's so funny, isn't it? Half the people here have gleefully shrieked of heroism as a 'power fantasy.' And here I am attempting to make clear the very obvious fact that heroism is lonely. And they're the ones who desperately argue otherwise.

Because we have stuff that proves you wrong, you don't and can't counter it. You beleive these made up rules you created when they are not true at all. If you played more games then ME series or read more books you would know that.

What part of genius billionaire playboy philanthropist do you not understand?

EDIT: StreetMagic also brings up Rhody, who I'd totally forgotten about.

Ah, yes.

If the writer doesn't conform to Davey's incredibly myopic and ignorant vision, they're "dishonest".

Your "very obvious fact" has been disproved about seven times now, so it's not as much of a fact as you think. Quit trying to deflect and admit you said something stupid.
